This is a monarch chrysalise. It is a pale green color and hard. But if you look closely, you can see some wings from within. The most amazing part of it all is the beautiful gold threads and dots. I was quite taken with those. Isn't it amazing, the smallest details-for no apparent reason. I am in awe of the creativity of the Master.

Hope all is well in PA - the children are getting bigger each time I look. Say Hi to Matt.
This is beautiful. I think that the beauty of those small, ornate details is the reason; they aren't "functional" in terms of practicality, but they serve an important purpose nonetheless. I love these signs of God's great delight in the act of creating!
Jean~thank you so much! Your comment made my day! All is well here, we are gearing up for our 'baby' girl to turn three tomorrow. They get big without permission. :-)
Abby~ it's true. When we think of all the 'extra's' that our creative Creator put into His works, it is amazing. Matt always brings up food-and taste. Why does something NEED to taste good? We would eat it if it were bland if it meant survival and yet we have delicious tastes for our palette.
