Living Potpouri

Fresh flowers are such a love of mine, I find it very hard to part with them on the occasion that I have them.

Take for example these flower petals. I have had these flowers since the second week in January. I enjoyed them in a vase for several weeks. When they *finally* started to putter out, I hung the ones that would dry nicely on my drying rack. Today, a month later, to squeeze out all the life, color and scents they still had to offer, Corynn and I took the petals off and placed them in a crystal dish to dry. Sometimes I put a candle among them, but today I think their beauty stands alone.

I will not rid of them when the petals are dried, either. I could make ornaments out them, add them to potpourri, display them in jars, add them to letters, or HEY-maybe I will finally try my hand at making my own paper! I have wanted to do that for quite some time!

  1. How pretty! What a great idea! I have some pink carnations that are not looking so fresh, I think I will put the petals in the dish tomorrow!

  2. Hi Rebecca! I am so glad that you droppped by my blog and said hello. I am also glad that I have now found your blog.

I am the same way with flowers. I absolutely love them and hate it when they start to wilt. My DH knows that little flowers (like daisies) bring just as big of smile to my face as roses because I can look at them a whole lot longer.

It is really nice to meet you!

  3. Your living potpourri is lovely- you could also use it as a beautiful scented filler for a package, as you did for my surprize package (which btw was the best thing that happened in my whole day!!! I loved everything, and especially the thought that went into it- Thanks So Much!) :)

  4. This is such a good idea. My wonderful husband just surprised me with five bouquets of flowers and I've been loving them so much I don't want to part with them. I know roses dry well, but as I've never been much of a rose girl, these bouquets are filled with other types (lilies, mums, carnations, daisies, etc.) I was wondering what types of flowers you find dry prettiest.

  10. Oh! I want to make paper, too! I've heard it's quite simple, and a friend gave me a paper-making tutorial once at her house. Too bad I've forgotten nearly all of it...
