Factoids

My favorite part was the calvary talk. We had front row picnic blanket seating and I learned quite a few things! Wanna hear some of them?

~ Swords are NOT to be called swords...they are appropriately called 'SABERS'. That is a BIG no no and I am sure I got several shaken heads at my faux pas.

~ Anytime you see a movie or reenactment that has multi colored horses, you know they are not being historically correct because they didn't use 'colored' horses at all during the civil war. Palomino's and spotted horses weren't around until later. Gray or white horses were used, often by the company 'sounders' and generals, no doubt to draw attention to them.

~They used cream of wheat to compact the black powder in their guns.

~ 2.2 million horses were lost in the civil war.

~They had four weapons on them at all times: the saber, the long arm, the short arm, and their horse.

Just a few little factoids for you. You never know when you might need them.
