From eight o'clock onward last night, my eyes were drawn to the windows. At 10:05, I could stand it no longer.
I knew I wouldn't be able to do it, I could never do it justice. I still don't know how to do no-light photos. But I had to TRY.
So, when my friend Nancy had left, and the children and Matt were snug and toasty under quilts and afghans~I started adding layers and grabbed my camera.
I laid on the snow, trying not to breath as I snapped 109 photos of the lunar eclipse.
Of those 109, this is the only one that turned out semi-decent and it is a sorrowful sight compared to the true-life experience, it leaves much to be desired.
But I tried. I'll give myself an E for effort.
After the 45 minutes I was out there, my bumpkin was frozen solid, my digits were burning hot with almost-frostbite, my abs had just withstood about 40 minutes of isometric contractions, and I came inside with only the assurance that I REALLY stink at night photography.
Just another thing to learn about and practice.
On the bright side: I have until 2010, I guess.

Rebecca,
I think you did a good job! You should see the attempts that I made LOL.

It looks good to me. ;) You're very lucky that you even got to see it. **sigh** Our skies were too cloudy last night. My daughter was very, very bummed to say the least.
Okay, I must live in a box. There was an eclipse last night? I'm so upset that I missed it!!!!! I think the picture looks great.

Thank you for trying...we could see absolutly NOTHING because it was so cloudy here. Have you managed to warm up yet? :o)

You made me laugh out loud! I really like the part about 40 minutes of isometric contractions. About the picture, I think you did a good job. I didn't even try to take a picture because I knew I wouldn't be successful. I like your idea of learning about night photography before 2010, I'm with you on that one.
Hey, at least you got a photo. I think it looks pretty good! I tried, but all of mine came out blurry.
I tried--but I wasn't going to venture outside without a tripod (not that I know how to use one)in 14 degree weather on a cloudy and snowy night--just hoping for a glimpse ever y half hour between clouds. I haven't really looked at my feeble attempts either--photos from the window.
I loved your post!
Wow that is a great photo, mine did not come out as great as that. Good job. You'll have it down by the next one! Thanks for the photo!
Good job. :) I only stayed outside for 30 mins. or so. It was freezing!! We got a couple shots like yours. I agree about figuring out the night shots before 2010. It doesn't work very well with shaking, frozen fingers! haha
