Nothing tastes quite so good as summertime.
Unfortunately, grass hasbeen planted in our garden in preparation for our move so again, one more year, I am without the joy of digging in dirt, planting, harvesting, and drowning in fresh produce. Parden me for just a moment....
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! MOoooaaaaannnnn. sniffle, sniffle.
Ok. I feel *a little* better.
Counting my blessings though, that there is an Amish roadside stand very near our home. We are enjoying the fruits of THEIR labor for now, while we still can. Enjoy we did! Before that container even got in the door it was more than half gone!
PS. Here is a weird tidbit on me: I hated cherries until about... last year! Those maraschino (sp?) cherries were all I had ever tasted and even just the THOUGHT of them repulsed me. Only last year did I try my first fresh cherry and....wowee! So glad I did! Thankfully, my children have a headstart on the cherry-lovin' department!

We're a bunch of cherry lovers here too. I'm headung off to the flea market tomorrow to hopefully get some, for freezing, eating, and jamming. Strawberries too. Just thinking about it is making me hungry!

Fresh dark sweet cherries are so delectable! Mr. B. comes from Traverse City, MI, which is the cherry capital of the world. We were there before when they were in season, and there is nothing like it. Oh, so good!! Glad you enjoy them now.
ReplyDeleteYummy! When we made our last move (4 years ago, 7 1/2 months pregnant!) we got most of our boxes at Wal-Mart. The boxes their diaper packs come in is just about the perfect size for moving, big enough to hold lots, but not too big that you can't pick it up when full. They are usually all broken down (flat) when you get them, so make sure you get a GOOD roll of tape to hold them together!

In Valois, which is about 30 minutes beyond Ithaca, there are cherry orchards where one can pick their own cherries.
ReplyDeleteEver since I can remember, my family has gone on "vacation" to pick cherries (and eat a million) at a little orchard by the lake. You could start a new tradition in your family!
