It's a family affair

Many hands make light work isn't ALWAYS the case, and definitely not when starting seeds.

Not when little boys want to eat dirt cells and little girls think "plant two per little box" means "dump all the seeds in your hand in any of the already seeded cells. No, no matter that the zinnias are mixed with tomatoes, Love!"

But they love to help and so I let them. If this keeps up, they will continue to love starting seeds and their fingers will grow and SOME day I will get seeds started without having to lift a finger and it will be done well.

All because I let them thwart the seedlings early on.

Until then, I have a lot of thinning to do....

  2. oh, washing diapers, washing dishes, cleaning messes, gardening... All harder now but i am getting these little boys TRAINED :D ... Aiden (28 months) has weeded several onions out of the garden though, and i think it was his zealous watering that took out a section of my radish patch :)

  3. Love the photos of your helpers! I know my boys loved helping me when they were younger and now my daughter is the one who enjoys helping me start the seeds.

  4. You are a wise momma to let them "help". You are nurturing a love of watching plants grown in them. :)

  5. I find it so hard to let my little helps....I know it's so very good for them and will make my life a lot easier LATER...wish I was a tad bit more laid back.

  6. I was planning to let the kidlets help me this year, but the day I needed to start them was One of Those Days (where you eagerly anticipate nap-time 10 minutes after everyone wakes up in the morning). It was Mama Therapy, my hands in the dirt, and better in the long run : ) They'll be able to help in the garden, since I will be ginormous come planting time.

The look on Judah's face cracks me up!

  7. I think you are a wise mother! I wish that I had learned this lesson early on in "motherdom". It definitely produces good fruit in the long run.
