Weekending
On Friday I said to myself, "THIS weekend I will do something for MYSELF." As usual though, time slipped past without a care as to my hopes.
As I laid in bed last night, however, a funny little thing dawned on me. I realized I had finished a crochet project for a friend, I had sewn a skirt for a girlie of mine, and I had brought in all the root crops before the first hard freeze and cut the last of the flowers and herbs. I had mended pants and toys and folded clothes. And it felt, very much, like I *had* done something for myself. It makes me supremely happy doing little things for people. Sewing would be much less fun if not for the enthusiasm which meets it by a little girl. The anticipation as I crochet is not nearly so exuberant when I am simply making a dishcloth for myself. That bit of joy was *just* what I had been needing.
And the highlight of my weekend? Walking with my love around the Place. Smelling the leaves (oh, I LOVE that smell). The tip of my nose getting cold. The subdued, right-before-a-fall-rain light. Percy the cat, following us along. Deer jumping up from the bushes not five feet away from me, when they finally decided I was close enough. (TWICE.)
Now my house is covered in beautiful and plentiful homegrown bouquets, the very last until spring rolls around again.
It had been the *perfect* weekend, after all.
How was yours?
I'm so glad you had such a lovely weekend! :) We did as well. Friday night we had the annual church hayride at a friend's farm. It was the perfect night for a long hayride with family and friends! Afterwards we had cider and homemade donuts and plenty of fellowship which was just what I needed. Then Sunday we had worship service (of course), a meal after that, and more fellowship. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I hope you share pictures of the crochet and sewing projects if/when you have the time! ;)
ReplyDeleteHow FUN! We are having an "OctoberFest" with the church at our place on the 20th. We will be making fresh cider too. And lots of soups and breads on hand. And hopefully a hayride-if we can scrounge up a wagon somewhere.
ReplyDeleteWanna come?!?!!!!
Oh, I would LOVE to come! Hmm, it isn't likely to happen but I can talk to Scott about it. :D
