Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real

{pretty}

Thanks to code orange, I have not bought hardly any flowers (except the recent post-Easter discount lilies. because seriously?  Who can resist those?) this winter but when company comes...especially company coming to celebrate something as important as a belated Easter, an exception MUST be made.

Sorry for always posting flower pictures.  I just can't help it.  I love them so.

 {happy}

A-hem. Sorry again.   'Tis (finally!) the season for homegrown flowers!  Hallelujah!  The children take as much pleasure in the giving as I do in the getting.

{funny}

A basket full of too-many projects.  The funny part is that I actually intend to finish them all by this
Sunday?!
HA HA HA ha ha ha hahahahahahaa

{Real}

For the first time in well over a decade, I went to a hairdresser to get a haircut instead of just doing it myself.  Fact is, I have very fragile, baby fine hair and it falls out easily.  Ever since I began to lose weight last year, my hair falls out at an alarming rate.  The result?  A very nasty spot in the back of my head where the length was a full four inches shorter than the rest of my hair.  I tried to even it up but I couldn't do it.  I knew I needed the help of a professional and I knew that my hair was going to be shorter than it has ever been since I was a kid...not because I wanted it that way, but because it would take a lot of hair cutting to get the back even again.

Matt loves long hair.  I love long hair.  I love long, flowy, feminine hair.  Don't get me wrong- some people can sport the greatest short hairdo's  (like herAnd her.  Are those not the cutest hairstyles ever and so perfect on them?!)   For myself though, I prefer long.  Probably because, since I am over 6'0 tall, short hair will only add to my manliness factor.  But, it had to be done.  Period.

I immediately thought of this hair style from the movie 27 Dresses.    And plus, no matter how many of the million hairstyles she had in that movie, they were all great.  Katherine Heigl and I have similarly shaped faces, it could work, right?

Riiiiiiiight.

If I didn't have a hairdresser that gave me random short layers all throughout my hair, making me look half rockstar/half shaggy dog.

I hate it.  I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.

And the good news is....my hair takes FOREVER to grow back.  And in the meantime- it is too short to pull up in a ponytail to hide.

My eyes are closed in the picture above because if they were open, you'd see the loveliest shade of red cry-eye you ever-did-see. And that would be a crying shame.

    Booo on the bad hair cut, I had one in 2010 that left me with a mullet - Horrifying and my hair also takes forever to grow. Thankfully, hair does grow!
    I'm so sorry about the comment issue. I had no idea, I was getting a lot of Spam and recently set to moderate hoping to solve it. Thanks for letting me know!

  2. I don't believe you for one second that it looks bad- you would be beautiful bald as a bowling ball- you just need to learn how to style it! Do you have hot rollers? Use the BIGGEST ones that you can, divide your hair into sections (somewhat bigger is better- I use about 5-6 rollers) and A. use a square of toilet paper or B. cut some pieces of tissue paper, fold this in half around a section of hair and slide it down to as close to the end as you can get with out all of the pieces coming out (sometimes you'll get a pice that just WON"T cooperate. stick it in a separate section). Roll up and pin. As soon as you put the last roller in, start taking them all back out beginning with the first one you put in. Hang your head upside down and gently loosen the waves and if you have (or you can make!) hair spray, spray while your head is upside down. Lovely loose waves nearly every time. And if all else fails, time to scour pinterest for hair growing treatments, and lucky for you, you look darn cute in a bandana : )

    Hugs!

  4. And as somebody who accidentally dyed her hair African Violet, and then had it stripped to bright orange (coulda landed a plane with that one), I totally sympathize. If I can find the pictures, I'll even post them.

  9. Ugh! I had the worst haircut experience ever twice in the past two years (in which I've had only three haircuts, so those are terrible odds. My last one was - no joke - a mullet. A MULLET! When it was finally long enough to put in a ponytail, I nearly cried from joy. Regardless, I thought the photo above was a model shot, and you look beautiful. (In case you'd like to see my experience, you can check it out here. :-D) http://balanceandspice.com/2012/02/a-new-do/

  10. From the photo that you've shown I think your hair looks great! Seriously! I like Bonnie's tips for the rollers, too. And you were incredibly sweet to include me in the people you think look nice with short hair. I've gone back and forth my entire life, letting it grow and then getting it cut. I'm not sure if it's my age or what, but I'm not thinking of growing mine back out anytime soon.

  11. Bonnie- friends don't let friends blog bad hair pictures. But then again----that WOULD be fun. :-)

    (And thanks for the advice. Rollers are on my to-find-fast list.) I did look up how to do pin-curls on Pinterest so maybe in the meantime I will try those.

    Elizabeth- you are very sweet and I really appreciate your encouragement via internet AND frantic phone call. ;-)

    Amy- I love her clothes there too! I especially love that gray dress she wore to the work party- the one with the cream ribbon- and REALLY wish I could somehow make one for myself!

    Kat- Wow. What a transformation that was! I died laughing when it came to the mullet picture. I know that it must have been such a huge shock from going from such LONG hair to such short- but you can rock it both ways VERY successfully!

    Tracy- As far as MY photo- I take that as a compliment that I am a pretty good picture taker-because you and I both know how you can manipulate pictures to show beauty even when there isn't any. :-) As for growing your hair out again- Why WOULD you? I REALLY love that hairstyle on you- it is so flattering and if you don't mind me saying so, you have a gorgeous neck and shouldn't hide it! :-)

  12. Flower pictures: More, please! We are anxiously awaiting the first unfolding of daffodils here. They'll probably open up right before the cold front hits tomorrow.

    Getting Hairs Cut: I second every else's comments about your beauty. Once the shock fades, you'll find a way to pull it off! Also, the last (and third in my life) time I had my hair cut by someone other than my mom, sister, or husband was in college, and after it was over, I wore winter hats every single day for 2 months straight. My forehead was perpetually itchy, but at least I hid the worst interpretation of a pixie cut I'd ever seen. If all else fails, now is the weather for bandanas and silk head scarves! Much more flattering than wool ski hats... :)

    This might sound really strange but if you have natural apple cider vinegar on hand, the kind with "mother" in it then take a shot glass and go 1/2 and 1/2 with water and vinegar and bolt it first thing every morning before breakfast. It will take a month to see a difference but what this does is aide digestion in moving bile through the liver and improving b-vitamin synthesis and uptake. It also has the benefit of reducing (gas). Unladylike to mention, I know. But digestion directly translates to healthy hair and nails. And I apologize for putting forward unwarranted opinions. I just hate to see a person suffer if there is another option. Like not suffering!

    Can I just say that I am sure that whatever it looks like, It will be BEAUTIFUL on you!!! As the other ladies have said, It will grow back. You can have that wispie(sp?) blow all over in the field look you see on those romantic movie's!! :)
    Looking forward to seeing your new hair on Sunday. I am sure you will do something grand with it!

    Love~ Mary

  16. Oh, so sorry about the haircut. I can't stand a bad haircut, but my hair does grow out fast. Too fast. I think you should go back or go to another hairdresser and make her correct the layers. It's worth it. Or do it yourself (I often cut my own hair -- you just have to THINK first :).

    Anyway, don't worry, I'm sure it looks fine to others. But if you need affirmation for getting it fixed, I'm here for you :)

  17. Your pink hydrangeas are gorgeous! I want some!

  18. Abby- I can't imagine you in short hair, let alone pixie cut, let alone BAD pixie cut.

    If you find me staring longingly in your direction on Sundays with your gorgeous long hair and your super cool updo's- don't be (too) weirded out. It's your hair, is all.

    Bonnie- you are a TRUE friend.

    Angela- on the contrary, I REALLY appreciate your comment! The gas thing isn't an issue (as if I would admit it if it were- HA!) but I have been having serious concerns about my thyroid/ vitamin B levels so I am absolutely going to try this. THANK YOU.

    Mary- thank you for your encouragement. Wispy, blow all over your face hair happens on this hilltop all the time so it may work out to my advantage. At least there will be less gnarles to comb out.

    Leila- if I would ask the hair dresser to even the layers I am afraid I would wind up with hair 2-3 inches short since that is the length of the shortest layers. Nope, I will just wait this one out (for a few years.) :-)

    Louise- Thank you! Wegmans- $6.99!
