Art: (Self-portraits inspired by the pumpkin farm)

 

I don't really need an excuse to go to the pumpkin farm, it is just that fun. And besides, it's tradition.



 




When we came home from our little field trip, I used a few pictures I had taken of the children to do an art project with them.  I took a picture of each of them, printed a copy and then the children cut it right in half.  We talked about symmetry and then the children tried to draw the missing half of their face.

I was SO impressed with the results!  I did sketch the head outline but that was the only line I helped with.  Each one of the children captured a piece of their personality in their drawings.  Even Adele'.who is only four, made a drawing that actually looked like HER.

    This is such cute idea!

    We live in PA too and I'm sooooo excited because we moved into our forever house over the weekend and we are in a much more rural area now. The closest grocery store is actually the farm store at our local orchard, which is just a mile and a half down the road. They sell staples (milk, eggs, beef, etc.) from other farms in the area, so it is all local. I'm obsessed with the idea of going there weekly and pretending I am Laura Ingalls Wilder going to town. It's not weird at all. (right?)

    Brilliant art lesson! Of course, many of the things you come up with I wish I had thought of when our kids were young and we lived in the country. And I wonder how they got that tree to have a face???

    Stephanie- YAY FOR YOU! I am so thrilled for you! Isn't it wonderful, when you know that the move you just finished will be your LAST move? Yes. I remember saying to myself over and over and over when we moved here "It's okay. This is the LAST time." Your house sounds wonderful and that little store does too. Weird? Nah. Not for you, Laura. :-)

    Anna- it was made from plaster of paris or something. Neat, huh?

    These self portraits are something else! You sure have some talented little artist in the Newman house!

    Your costumes up top are sweet and very creative. But then I would expect no less from the creative mama you are:-)
