What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

Finances on Friday

I don't have much to write about this week, money-wise.  We had a dentist appointment and a chiropractor appointment, I mailed off Christmas cards and didn't really do much in the way of saving...so I am feeling a wee bit broke right about now- and not at all frugal.

The one great thing I can write about is the abundance of food given to us this week!- and all of it MEAT!

* A friend gave us over 16 pounds of venison (already ground up!) that I was able to put in the freezer.

* My sister and bro-in-law gave us over 5 pounds of excess ground beef (for the freezer) and a full gallon bag of pulled pork which we snarfed up immediately.  They also gave us a large tub of pico de gallo which was a wonderful, WONDERFUL taste of fresh tomato that we have been enjoying each evening.

* A neighbor brought us a Christmas ham in thanks for something we did for him this year.  Very unexpected, very unnecessary, but a very wonderful surprise!

* Washed up another bunch of food grade buckets that I picked up for free last Saturday.

* Worked on more Christmas presents with supplies I had on hand.

That's about it besides the many usual things I always do to save money that come second nature to me and that seem like a waste to write and rewrite each Friday.

Finances on Friday posts have been fun to do (and helpful!) but very time-consuming and, very likely, BORING for anyone reading this blog. Even me at times.  I've been thinking that perhaps a monthly financial post is better suited for this blog than a weekly one.  It will be less commitment on my part, less boring on your part and hopefully just as helpful in keeping my head in the financial game.  You can expect that starting January.

This weekend a big snowstorm is expected to come through.  I think I may have sung "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" a WEE bit too loudly today.  Guess I better hunker down under a blanket for the weekend.          Oh dear...what a shame.  ;-)

I've enjoyed your Friday Finances too. It's a good reminder to me that the little things add up to big savings; plus I've learned a few new tricks which is also nice. But you do what you have to do to stay sane and productive. Merry Christmas!

while there're none more appealing than the posts featuring photographs of your family and home and nature (those postcards! that calendar! LOVE 'em; best money I've spent in a long time) and things you've made, these financial posts are such good food for thought (and perhaps even slow-but-sure implementation).

I found your blog a couple of months ago when linking over from Small Things' Yarn Along and have enjoyed and been inspired by your Finances on Friday posts. I've implemented bi-weekly grocery shopping and hope to try out monthly shopping in the new year. Although I'm a city girl at this point in my life, I also have 4 children and love crochet. Thank you for allowing this glimpse into your life, and I look forward to your monthly financial posts in the new year! Michelle in TN

It's the "usual things you always do to save money" that are the solid foundation for everything else. It seems from the comments that everyone appreciates the encouragement to be thrifty and your descriptions of the many things that can be done to achieve that.

Love your photo of the beans in glass jars. I did that in one house, that had open shelving in the kitchen, with about eight jars of different kinds of beans. It was my zero-dollar-decor, but so lovely to look at.

I like it too, it's like accountability/inspiration... Also nice to reflect on how I actually save! So thank you!

I found you through Ginny's yarn along...I kept on wondering why does that woman have words written all over her face?! So because I am nosy, I clicked over to your blog and am now currently stalking you through your archives...So many things I agree with you on...most importantly....laugh lines around the eyes are fine...deep furrows across the brow...not so much!

Wow. I had no idea that my FF posts were this well-received! I am glad to continue them if they are something worthwhile to continue. I just didn't know. I thought of them more as boring than anything else. Thank you for the feedback everyone!

Anna- good idea! I'll have to do that one of these days.

Kimberly-they are! I put in a bulk order a little while ago and put them in glass jars to keep little pests out of them. I haven't done anything with them at this point though. I have been too busy to even think about beans lately. Now that I will continue to do FF posts, you'll find out when I do! ;-)

Jaya~ That would be a perfect set-up for me, that's for sure. THanks for the links! I will absolutely check them out after Christmas!

Robbie, Jenna and Michelle- so glad you are here and so glad you found me. As for your question, Robbie, well...it's because I am crazy you see. :-)
