Dave- what a strong and pointed pinky you have! ;-) (Yes, Dave, I did just do that. NOW who is laughing, Mister?!) |
This past weekend...oh, this past weekend. A weekend of weekends it was.
I packed up little clothes and medium sized clothes and big clothes, all in separate bags and emptied the chicken buckets and used up the bananas and charged my camera battery and scoured Ravelry for a new project or two to keep fingers occupied during a long drive...all in preparation for my in-laws to take the children for the weekend while Matt and I took a bit of a road trip together. Just the two of us.
For Matt, hotel rooms and four hour drives and restaurants where they serve you are old hat...but for me, oh, for me they were so...so....so luxurious. Not making the bed. Not cooking the meals. Not serving up six plates and cutting the meat on two of them before turning my attention to my own plate. Not having to wash a single dish afterward. Food that you don't have to prepare or have to clean up after tastes SO GOOD letmetellyou. Bliss.
We traveled southward to share in the joy of some dear friends and witness a wedding (the first wedding in a long time where I was simply, solely and happily just another guest sitting with her husband.) We got to travel through Lancaster, PA and admire the tulips in bloom and the gardens already growing green things. We got to worship in a wonderfully prolific church on Sunday where every family had a handful of children who all sat through the two hour service and said "Yes Ma'am and Yes Sir" when spoken to and the men all looked so dapper in their suit jackets and ties. We got to eat breakfast at Cracker Barrel and lunch at some gaudy, metallic diner off of 81 that had real fish swimming in walls and star rhinestones glued on the ceiling. We got to talk and talk without interruptions or guarded words lest little ears would hear about whatever popped into our heads and at the very moment it did. We held hands and Matt opened the door for me when I got in and out of the car and neither of us were thinking of what we 'should be doing now'. It was just us.
And everywhere, there were green leaves already dancing in the wind and apple blossoms perfumed the air and the Dogwoods and Magnolia trees were dressed in all their glory.
It was such a wonderful, beautiful weekend.
The first weekend away, just the two of us, since our honeymoon.
Oh my, how lovely for you both! You deserve it!!!! Im still waiting for mine. Lol.

I'm glad you had a refresher honeymoon--so vital for young couples, I think. Old couples like them (and need them) too!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fabulous time! Food, even if it's not good food, does always seem to taste better when you don't have to cook it, serve it, or clean it up! Definately bliss!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun weekend! I'm so happy for this break for you.
ReplyDeleteI live for weekends like this. Very few and far between tho;) So glad you had such a nice time with your husband. It looks like you were close to our area, south central PA. Lovely setting for a wedding!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds truly amazing!

ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS. I'm so happy for you - reading this post I just smiled and thought "yes. I GET it." I'm so glad you got to get away and see "new" and feel "new" and just be alone with your love.
ReplyDeleteSticks and stones may break my bones but memes will never hurt me.
ReplyDeleteMy pinkie is thicker than Matt's waist!
ReplyDeleteHurrah! What a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteToo bad you had to take that bearded guy along, but not all vacations can be perfect. ;)
