This morning was the very best kind of morning...my very favorite kind. Last night's rumbles of thunder and splashes of lightning made the whole world bedecked in glittering diamonds, made more beautiful by the soft morning light and misty air. And there was the lingering that made the noticing of mist and of dew diamonds possible.
The flower circle is, once again, my happy place. I should be working in the vegetable gardens- the pathways are green and gold and alive with roaring 'lions- but I can't seem to make my way over there. My feet take me to the flower circle where the bee balm begs for my hand to brush against it, the lilacs lure me with sweetened breezes and the lemon balm and stevia tempt me for a nibble.
It is alive and well and thriving but not very colorful these days. Mostly it is just green and white~ beautiful green and white~ but not for long. Everywhere there are little swollen buds waiting to burst with color. They just need a little more coaxing. But for now- who needs color when one has lilacs?! It happens to be one of my most favorite scents. My neighbors and husband and in-laws have all told me I should cut the lilacs back and make them small. I know in my head that doing so would allow for better visibility for cars (and even better accessibility to blooms)- but I really love the wall of lilacs that make my circle more secluded and private and *almost* a secret. I am not sure what to do about that. I decide once and for all to be practical and trim them back to more modest-sized bushes when they are green or branchy in winter- but when the lilacs come, I lose all of my resolve.
Matt was out of town last night so I brought out a card table and my sewing machine and a brimming basket o' stuff, plopped it in front of the television to check things off the list while watching a girlie movie. I stood up and climbed up the stairs around 12:30 am, leaving my mess right where it stood, and into bed to read The Dollmaker for another hour until the sky rumbles finally lured me to sleep. I didn't feel guilty about rolling out of bed at 7:23 this morning, either. And thankfully, there was maple vanilla yogurt and peanut butter granola and strawberries already made so I didn't have to waste any more time cooking breakfast. It was just a dump in a bowl and enjoy kind of morning.

Curious...what kind of bird is that? We don't have those here, I don't think!!
I'm with you on the lilacs. Having something to make your flowery retreat secluded from the road nearby is a MUST!
Beautiful photos! My brothers had a fire truck riding toy similar to yours.
Hope all the rain helps your plants grow
I just saw my first ever bobolink this week. How fun that yours came to you instead of making you trek it down! Lovely photos.
Amy- thanks to Amanda's comment...I know it a BOBOLINK now. You wouldn't guess that I was scouring bird books and the internet to no avail! :-)

i know the year's not yet half over, but might there be a 2015 calendar in the making?
Just beautiful! In fact I did linger over these photos! Your lilac pictures made me wish we could smell through the internet. (Now wouldn't that be something?) thanks for sharing!
Blessings
Renata:)
Love your blog and those photos with the dew and rain on flowers and leaves and the sparkling diamond drop of dew. I'll be a visiting some more...your yard with hens and the proud rooster strutting his stuff is memorable .
