The wedding season is officially over for me, with the last wedding to photograph having happened this past weekend. I love photographing outdoor weddings- the lighting helps make an amateur like myself seem better than I am. Almost all the weddings I have done have been outdoor weddings and every single one has been beautiful weather. I don't know that I could be brave enough to chance it myself- but boy, if you do and it is a good day... it sure is lovely. I still have some editing to do and sorting but sneak peeks will be coming soon! And seeing all these lovely weddings being put together on a dime is giving me lots of inspiration for throwing a wedding next year for my parents~ who will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary next April. We'll be giving them the wedding they never got and it's going to be fun.
Friday was the wedding so Saturday I kind of poked around~ feeling unmotivated in every way. Didn't feel like working in the garden (though I should have). Opened the door to the Granary to work there (sure is enough to do there too) and then promptly closed it again. I have a portfolio to put together by the end of this week- but didn't want to sit behind the computer all day. Wedding photos to edit- but I needed a break from wedding things. So I went to say "hi" to Matt for a minute out by the barn where he was working on the barn addition (big surprise! ha!) and then he put me to work. The rest of the day I spent working alongside him putting in windows and hanging boards. I am learning that I shouldn't go say 'hi' unless I intend to work. I am also getting mighty proficient with a nail gun- though Matt can attest to all the 'girlie' mistakes I make like handing the nailgun (and its' accompanying cord) through the window that we should be putting glass into and other silly things like that. Some days he gets irritated by my silly mistakes and then I get irritated with him that he expects me to actually know what I am doing even though I have done nothing of the sort before in my life ~ but Saturday he would just chuckle and shake his head every time I made some silly mistake. I still felt like a dork, but knowing he loved my dorkiness made me feel better about things. It was nice being beside him, helping him along, and I don't even care that there were a million other things I *should* have done. I was with him and he chuckled at me. A well spent Saturday in my book.
The addition is now officially DONE.
I guess it is on to the next project for him. I'm not sure what that will be yet- but I am sure I'll be finding out soon enough. :-)
Every morning I wake up and look at my flower circle and every morning I am so taken with the beautiful blooms peeking out I take a picture. And then- by the afternoon, it has become more glorious with more blossoms and more color. And so I take another picture. And then the same thing happens again and again. The irises are in bloom and they are blowing my mind. I set aside the fake orchid in the bathroom and have been putting fresh flowers in there ever since the lilacs. The dining room table too. And kitchen. I am not a grow-and-just-look kind of flower gardener. I am a grow-cut-and-fill-every-empty-nook-with-them kind of flower gardener. And this is my favorite time of year.
It is also my childrens' favorite time of year. The foraging has begun in earnest with the laden branches of locust blossoms for munching. Locust blossoms have a pea flavor and a slight crunch when still in bud form and my children love them. Love them. They gather bowls and bowls to eat throughout the day and whenever I haven't seen them for a bit I just need to look up into the locust trees to see dirty dangling feet and sheepish grins filled with petals. We had a cold pea salad with locust blossoms for dinner and Matt shook his head and chuckled again.
Oh- and the children had their SECOND campout of the year! The first was in late April/early May when the two older children went out into the middle of the field with a few blankets and nothing but the stars above them...even though I assured them that it was TOO COLD to camp. (They made it until about 2 am and were found the next morning snug and cozy in their beds.) The second time was on Saturday night when all FOUR of the children camped out in the new-to-us tent. They wore winterish pj's and plenty of quilts and made it out there all night long. Matt and I should have used that time/opportunity wisely but instead we both conked out before the children stopped chattering.
We are quite the pair of old fogies.

Your red iris is absolutely stunning! Great weekend!
How amazing our minds work..You can tell we are sisters cut from similar cloth..Guess whose kiddos had their first outdoor backyard tent sleepover this weekend also?? ;) Too Funny! Except mine did NOT wear warm pjs and I was crazy not to force the subject because it was COLD out there! The girls were snuggled in their sleeping bags and stayed warm, but the boy- well he is stubborn like his dad and was FREEZING with little more than 2 blankets out there! They had loads of fun though and the tents are staying up for a possible near sleepover soon ;)
i love, love this post ~ this glimpse into your world and heart and sense of humor and talent for written description ~ feel like i know you ~ and i so very truly like you.
I really need to get off the computer, so the comments will be fast and sparse now.
But.
1. That iris bouquet is stunning.
2. Adele' has a smattering of freckles! A perfect dusting. How did I not notice this before in a Sunday hug?
