Got this hand-pieced/hand-quilted full size quilt at a yard sale for $25.00!! It was a splurge for me but an excellent price for anyone. Not a stitch broken and only one small stain! |
The loosestrife is in bloom this week! |
The books getting packed for the yard sale was a children magnet. Some books never made it to the yard sale. |
We've caught (and admired) three turtles so far this year...ONE was even a snapper! |
Contented Penny- still pregnant. |
The yard sale this weekend was a success! I learned a few things~
1) Todd and Deb read my blog! (Hi Todd and Deb!)
2) A baked goods table is totally worth the effort. Chocolate chip cookies and pecan pie practically flew outta-there! So did the jalapeno jelly. (I will be doing THAT again!)
3) My back can burn in just the amount of time it takes to visit with Todd and Deb (see #1). (So much for me babying my skin!)
When all was said and done, I came back $128.00 dollars richer and a carload lighter. I did sort a few of the best things to do one more yard sale at our local community yard sale in August (at which point I will have a huge baked goods table!) or to sell at the consignment shop but I got rid of most of the leftovers...which is a good feeling. One step closer to an empty, tidy, organized Granary.
Even though Penny was due this past week- no calf yet! Andrew is going crazy. (Absolutely insane!) Matt is wondering if he might have been off a heat cycle and she won't go until next month. I, on the other hand, am absolutely fine with her being late. I know with the yummy milk will come a whole lot of work so she can take her good, sweet time as far as I am concerned.
My foot feels so much better. Days 1 and 2 were pretty bad (especially with being on my feet so much with the yard sale!) but it doesn't hurt at all anymore practically, I am no longer limping and the wound is as lovely looking as a wound can look. I keep it dressed during the day to keep it clean but take off the wrap at night in bed for some fresh air. Skin is an amazing thing. God is an amazing designer.
This is the first week in many that I haven't felt overwhelmed with things that were so pressing and needing to be done IMMEDIATELY (garden, schoolwork, reviews, wedding pics, yard sale and everything NOW NOW NOW!) so I am very excited to have a less pressing, no commitment week ahead. And by very excited, I mean VERY EXCITED.
Here are my hopefuls for the week~
*
*
* paint garden map. Because I love doing that.
*
*
*
*
* Redo the budget because I haven't been able to save as much as I would like to for some reason. Also-make a plan for a new grocery budget for the summer. It should be able to be way less than $200 a month once Penny starts giving milk and the garden starts producing in earnest.
*
*
* make yogurt
*
* get affidavit notarized
* put up a batch of strawberry jam
*
* finish the bridal shawl, for goodness' sake.
*
* blog posts:
How was your weekend? What are your hopefuls for the week?
That quilt is beautiful! What a great price.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt, splurge my foot!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend was crazy, with our last (boo-hiss, they're not going to have them anymore) homeschool convention, B. going out camper shopping, I went out to dinner with the bridesmaids of the wedding I'm in this coming Saturday, and then Sunday, B. and I had 11 children in the 3-5 year olds children's church class (and they were GREAT!), his parents took us out to eat for lunch, home for a bit, then back out to look at campers and a stop at a local ice cream stand for supper. THIS week:
~ I'm hoping the rain holds off so the garden can dry out, I have lots of weeding to finish, tomatoes to trellis, lettuce and beans to replant etc. etc.
~ My yogurt is "yoging" right now
~ double batch of bread to make
~ 2 children's vests to sew and my dress and my sisters dress to fit for the wedding
~ make granola since breakfasts have been flying by the seat of my skirt here lately. Not good.
~ pick up meat chicks
~ help set up for wedding
~ Wedding
And 6,000 other things scattered in between.
I'm glad your foot is better! I had to skim that post. Puncture wounds and I don't get on very well.
Welp, some children are down for rests, lunch dishes need to be done and I have a garden waiting for me, so tootley-doo!
P.S. Your pork loin(?) has me absolutely drooling.
I have a homemakerly question for you re your kitchen (your first photo and then reading about your baked goods got me drooling, then wondering...) -
ReplyDeleteAre you super disciplined about cleaning up immediately after cooking/eating every meal? Do you ever let things pile up during the day or overnight? My inkling is that you have a dynamite work ethic - yes?
I just LOVE that quilt and the scone photo is BEAUTIFUL! :) Thank you so much for the LOVELY little sweater for Ben...and WOW. That is sooo crazy-awesome about his name. :) I really needed a hug today (busy busy with 5 Day Club) and that is what your package was to me! :) Thank you!
ReplyDeleteTheresa- I keep telling myself that too- you don't just walk away from that!
ReplyDeleteBonnie- "yoging"- that's funny! I'm jealous of the bridesmaids bit...I was just thinking about how I will probably never be a bridesmaid again. And that is so sad for me! I wish I had excuses to dress like a princess sometimes. Oooh- and a CAMPER! HOW FUN! And meat chickens! Awesome.
Anonymous- dynamite work ethic! ha! I had to laugh at your comment because if you saw the state of my house right now you would be shocked at my work ethic! In answer to your question though- I DO try and get the dishes cleared up after meals for the most part. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule and there are failures with the rule too. Mostly it is the practical aspect of dried/caked on food being harder to get off than still wet food that convinces me to clean things up as opposed to some awesome work ethic. But thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt! ;-)
Amy- I'm so glad you liked it! Enjoy your 5-day club and remember to take it easy, Missus!
That quilt is gorgeous! There is no way I could have walked past it. Definitely a worthwhile purchase at that price!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your yard sale went well. It makes me want to declutter myself. It would be impossible to do a garage sale ( what we call them) out here on the farm, but just clearing out makes things seem so nicer and at the moment with being winter we are spending more time indoors and the clutter is getting to me! I think a nice big load to the op shop sounds good ( as long as I don't accidently buy it back - I've done that before).
The wedding photos in the above post are beautiful. Do you photograph many weddings? You are certainly talented!
I'm confused about Matt's heat cycle comment. Does the semen stay alive long enough until a second heat?
We are talking AI for both our house cows and I find it very interesting.
It's lovely to catch up here. I'm glad to hear your foot is on the mend!
Have a lovely day
Blessings
Renata:)
Renata~ I get the SAME WAY at winter about clutter. I think it is because of so much time spent indoors. By February I am ready to just junk the whole house! :-)
ReplyDeleteI have quite a few weddings under my belt at this point...which is a strange fact for me since I don't really have a 'business'. I always think I should start one officially- but then never do. Childcare seems too daunting at this point for a real photography job. As for the wrong heat cycle- sure enough it was. Penny is due (we discovered last night) on JULY 28th not in June. So one more month to go. No the semen wouldn't stay virile for a whole month- it was a matter of us miscounting the 282 days from breed date. July 28th, it is!
I told you I read it...
ReplyDeletethat quilt is stunning!
ReplyDeletedo you have that scone recipe to share? They look amazing!
I am so inspired by your $200 a month grocery and lower? wow awesome! I am wondering if you would care to share what you are feeding your family? $200 is not a lot of money and it's so inspiring you can do that!
Love your lists! I think you have inspired me to make one for the week!
Be blessed,
Cathie
Aha! There's that quilt!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt, photos, post, all.
Cathie~ sorry it took so long to get back to answer these questions!
ReplyDeleteI have a recipe blog that has a few new posts about ready to go up. I'll make sure to include the scone recipe for you.
