Why is it that the moment I determine to be low-carb,
it suddenly becomes very important to learn how to do All.The.Things with carbs.
New biscuit strategies that don't require a recipe.
How to make homemade tortillas.
Experimenting with some new bread recipes.
And all of a sudden-like, needing to know how phyllo is traditionally handmade, why French baguettes have honeycomb, and how traditional Foccacia is made in Genoa.
I guess, instead of saying 'Way to Dough', I should be saying "Way to GROW".
har har.
Speaking of growing- look who is big enough now to climb up the kitchen stool and get himself to working...
Yay for dough making and bread baking! I just love Brenda Gantt. I follow her on FB and her recipes pop up almost daily. She is a gem and a fine Christian woman. Like sitting with a favorite Aunt. I blame the carb and dough craving on the winter. It's just what we do, so have some fun!
ReplyDeleteMy husband's grandparents were Macedonian. His Baba (grandma) made phyllo dough by hand and used a broomstick to roll it to cover the kitchen table. It is said she made the best Zelnik ever! Wish I would have known her and learn from her. I cheat and use the frozen kind!
Yes, way to grow for me as well! ;) I just started my first, successful sourdough starter, as in I’m actually BAKING with it and not staring at it, wondering if it’s gonna kill me...funny..time takes care of all of those “being afraids”, don’t they...
ReplyDeleteI want to try sauerkraut too this summer, if I have a successful cabbage crop! My children all love the canned sauerkraut (ewwww)
So I know they would love the real thing!
Look at little Moses, so big! (Oops, oxymoron)...
Thanks for sharing the video on biscuit making. I've never made good biscuits. They could usually be used to pave roads. I'll try again.
ReplyDeleteUlli- that is so neat about the broomstick phyllo!
ReplyDeleteSimplefarmmama- Yes! Andrew says all the time "Moses is so little! And so BIG! at the same time!" Oxymoronic, yet true. ;-) Is yours a wet sourdough? I am trying this 'dry' sourdough because the wet ones are always a bit too much for me. Hope yours goes well!
Unknown- sure thing. A person must have biscuits in their lives!
We are having another snow day today how about you
