Italian Herb Bread and other Recipe 'Ketchup'

I have quite a few requested recipes that I need to get caught up on sharing...so that is what I am going to post about today. Good thing, because I was lacking inspiration! The applesauce recipe for Kelli, the bread recipe for Melissa, and for Pretty Lady, the peach butter. I apologize especially to you, Pretty Lady, since it has taken SO long to get back with you. Thank you for your request and for contacting me!

First on the list:

Italian Herb Bread


1 1/2 c. warm water
4 1/4 c. bread flour
2 T. sugar
1 1/2 t. salt
2 T. Olive Oil
1 t. Italian Seasoning
2 t. active dry yeast

Place ingredients in bread machine in the order that they are written. Process under the 'basic setting'.

This recipe is a SNAP to make and is a good compliment to Italian dishes and pasta. It is wonderful the next day too, if you make the leftover bread into cheesy garlic bread. Simply add garlic powder to melted butter and brush on bread. Sprinkle with shredded mozzerella and a bit of parsley. Broil in oven until cheese is melted and a bit golden. YUM!

    What a yummy looking recipe! Delicious! Also, thanks so much for stopping by my blog recently, and for your sweet comment. I like to visit your blog too, even though I don't comment much...just call me "Lurker"! LOL Last year, I especially kept up with you as you neared your 'D-Day' with your little one. I think I was so fixated (LOL) on everyone else's birth stories since I was due in May...although our little one made his debut on April 30th! Your children are beautiful! Oh, and I was really inspired when you did your post on 'home' photo shoots! Those were great!

    rebecca, thank you for stopping by my blog. And the stair-step of my children is fun, but you know, in response to your post---I wanted 4 boys. HHhheee, I find it so amusing that I wanted a house full of boys and I got all girls. I know the Lord has his reasons. And now that I have 4 girls I LOVE it.

    And you are right, I find it adicting, I have no family here and just a few friends, so this blogging thing is my way of communicating with the world!

    Hi again, yes we 1 bunny, 9 hens, 3 roosters, 1 Peacock, 2 pygmy goats, 2 ducks and a pot-bellied pig.

    When you and your hubby do get the chance I do recommend it, all but the pig, tho Suzy Q is cute, she smells terrible, the goats are my favorite, they are like 2 dogs, they have the sweetest personalities, and they are very gentle with our girls. The roosters and the ducks we rescued. The hens are wonderful for the eggs. And the best part is my children are so thrilled with the animals, they rarely hang out anywhere else. And the animals are great "living" homeschool projects.

    Thanks so much for posting the bread recipe! Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy and so much cooler than what we have gotten used to recently--I think a good Italian meal is in order! :)

  8. Ok, quick question from the bread baking challenged... as I've always wondered, but never asked. Do you need to use bread flour and if so, what's the difference between bread flour and regular flour?

  9. Sure thing. Basically, bread flour is a high gluten flour-which gives loftiness and elasticity to dough. And it conatins barley which helps to activate yeast.

    You can substitute all purpose flour for bread flour (though the bread might not be as 'airy') but you SHOULDN'T substitute bread flour for all purpose (meaning-don't use it in cakes and cookies and recipes that call specifically for all purpose.)

  10. Thanks. I've always used all-purpose flour & wheat flour in my bread maker. It turned out fine. I was just wondering what I was missing. lol!
