She also enjoyed making the fruit salad herself. Not to mention-she sets the table for me for each meal AND clears it! She surely is becoming quite a help in the kitchen! And so EAGER to help too! I have under-utilized her, I think! :-) It's easy to get caught up in the 'I can get it done MUCH faster myself!" frame of mind but that is to your own detriment-and to the detriment of your child. Their eagerness to please should be encouraged and rewarded! If Corynn is helpful at three years old-and encouraged in that way-how much MORE help will she be when she is 16?!?

I know exactly what you mean about just wanting to get it done quickly!! My children are asking to help with things all the time and I am trying to be more patient and let them help more. That is very true about if they want to help now, they will be so much more help when they are older. I have been convicted about this lately, so it is very fitting that you mention this today!! Thanks for the reminder.

  2. Thanks Emily. I am sure I will need PLENTY of reminders when I have FOUR children trying to help versus one. I have it pretty easy right now!

I guess if I keep practicing, I might be better at it as more children come along...

  3. Children helping. This so reminds me of my d-i-law next door, and her oldest boy. Well, he's not very old at 6. And can be quite the 'handfull,' at times.

But he discovered helping and he's running with it. And this 'being a helper' is even spreading over to things like, his being more helpful/gentle with his little brother. Yeaaa for letting them help out!!!
