Foto Friday: Self Portrait Edition
Before we begin, I have a message to all of you people who think I am loony (and tell me so) for taking 500 pictures of water last week. Indeed, 500 was a lot but IN MY DEFENSE: 400 of them were trying to capture a SINGLE drop of water midair. I mean, you just can't do that in one try! So there. I said it.
Don't think I am a weirdo because of THAT. I AM a weirdo, but that isn't the pudding where the proof resides. For the proof in the pudding, just take a gander at my self-portraits this week.
I had FUN this week. I figured everyone has already seen what *I* look like so I didn't have the burden of formally introducing my photographic self, so I could just have fun with it and be silly. And be silly I did. I took pictures with my toes. I stood on my head. I used mirrors, lots of mirrors. I was invited to a butterfly ball. I made good use of an eyeliner purchase gone bad. I tried all sorts of things.
When Corynn came up behind me while I was viewing the photos on the computer she literally bust a gut with laughter. Could. Not. Stop. Then she called Andrew over. Me having writing on my face and having butterflies land on my mouth and forehead were just too much for them. That is when I knew I had succeeded in a fun and quirky self-portraiture. Because hey-that's me. Quirky.
Read it for yourself!
Can I just tell you....I didn't realize how difficult it is to write each letter and the whole word backwards until I had to do it. Man, that was a pain. I am really surprised the words are even legible.
All week it has rained thus creating TERRIBLE indoor light. In order to get the proper lighting I had to stand in the front doorway. With my FACE all written all over! I draped a black blanket over the door for the backdrop. Let me tell you, I was petrified someone would come by just at that moment. That is how things work with me.
I also utilized the window every chance I could.
These butterflies are for a school project but I had to hijack them first. Don't worry, you'll see!
My ISO had to be really high which is why I am a bit grainy in them. Oh well.
And ok. Here is a non-silly one thrown in for good measure. (Again, another window shot.)
Here's an interesting tidbit: in the process of these window shots, I pushed my glass coin vase over and shattering it into a million shards of green glass. I guess I need to pay more attention to what is NOT within the frame's view.
Now it's YOUR turn!!!
In order to participate in these Foto Friday challenges, you must take a photo (or several) pertaining to the challenge and post it to your blog (and when you do, please link back to this blog {you may use the button if you like} so that perhaps we can get lots of participants! Because, you know, the more the merrier!) Then simply link to your Foto Friday post with Mr. McLinky here so that we all can visit you and compare notes...
Most importantly~challenge yourself, but HAVE FUN doing it.
Are you ready for this week's challenge?! It is: Berries.
The original suggestion was for berries in the fall and if you are able, by all means, do so! There is a chance though, that not every one shares our seasons and so I am opening it up to ANY berries in order to accomodate everyone. Yes, even grocery store grapes. SO. No excuses! ;-)

I LOVE 'EM! :) I can see why you children busted a gut! :P So creative! Way to think outside of the box! Butterflies, YEA!!! :) Blue eye liner, YEA!!! :)
The serious one is just gorgeous...I love the softness of it!
Berries! YUM! Ooooo! FUN! :)
See you next week!
Amy
Hey, what a way to use the eyeliner! How hard was it to get off? You're stunning you know, even when used as graffiti!
I'll be posting later. I hope you all aren't stricken blind or anything....
No... earthly... way... I... can... keep... up... with... your... photos... but,...
I suppose I'll try to find some self-taken pic of me, which I don't totally abhor. ,-) And then, try to get that linky thing to work. I don't know which of those things, will be the most difficult for me! lol
Wow, those are absolutely gorgeous! I took pictures yesterday but think I am going to have to rethink them. I wanted to capture something that would represent who I am, the cook, baker, mother, wife and lover to my hubby but well.... Maybe once the kitchen is clean... I promise there will be something posted before later on today....
By the way, I love the way these challenges are so... challenging! Umm, now to wake up! (When does the sun come up there? At 0725 it is still dark out...)
OK, I did it.
But the Foto Challenge button didn't work, on my blog entry. -pout- Typical, I fear. I'm not techy.
But! I HAVE click-able links TO your blog, posted in my blog entry.
Later I have to come back and visit the other gals. But right now, I have to get off line. ,-))))

They are all beautiful!
Just like you are.
Gentle hugs,
Aunt Amelia
I was photoshopping my pictures when you commented. LOL!!! They are up now. OK, so while all these are great, I LOVE the white one of you and the last one of you. Tell us how you did it!! :)
You are way more creative than me - especially with the self portraits. I'm afraid that I just wanted to "get this one done". lol! Love the creative use of the eye liner. ;)
ATTENTION FELLOW FOTO FRIDAY FRIENDS!
Okay, so this message is for all those Foto Friday people who couldn't see all my photos. I messed up my link and then when I tried to relink my blog it wouldn't let me SO, if you would like to see the other pictures for my Foto Friday Challenge hit the link to my blog and at the very bottom, below all the comments hit the HOME button. It will take you to my regular blog rather than the link- then you will be able see them all :)
Rebecca, I'm sorry for monopolizing your comment area, I just felt bad that alot of people couldn't see my pictures!
Paula~ the white one of me? I am not sure which one you mean. The eye one?
To do the eye one~ I leaned my forehead against the glass of my window. My setting was manual (with autofocus ON since I couldn't obviously focus myself) My ISO was at 400, and my settings were slow and wide in order to make a washed out image. My camera also was leaning against the window glass, about 8-10 inches from my face but zoomed in.
The last one was also purposely washed out from my settings. My ISO was higher because I was further from the window here. The window was to my left, which is why the one side of my face is lighter than the other. The camera was angled down slightly and positioned in a way that my hair would take up part of the frame. It looked like the camera was going to take a picture of my cheekbone (or lack thereof, hehe). I tilted my head down slightly. I was looking at the bed. Look too far down, my eyes would look closed (and my double chin would appear). Too far up, I wouldn't get the reflective aura. My camera was again, 8-10 inches from my face but slightly zoomed in.
Hey Rebecca,
I owe you a HUGE apology. I SWORE I commented on your pics before I made the other comment about my blog but then when I came to your blog this am I didn't see my initial comment for you- I AM SO SORRY! How Rude it must have seemed for me to monopolize your comment section just for my own benefit...Can you Forgive Me?
What I initially wrote was...I LOVE YOUR CREATIVITY! I loved the concepts that you used and my favorite pics were the one with the butterfly perched on you and the very last one you posted- it was serenely beautiful! You are GORGEOUS!!! :)
OK "slow and wide to get washed out look" - that needs to be a challenge! LOL!! I have NO IDEA what you mean. :) One thing you need to know about me is sometimes I need to be explained things like I am a child. :)
But seriously, it would be fun to try a washed out look challenge. I might just have to do that on my own, once you tell me how! :D
OH and one more thing ... are grapes really considered a berry??!!
I was going to mention yesterday, and forgot, but that last photo- you look like a Madonna, very serene!
( Madonna, as in Mary not as in cone bra scary Madonna....)
Rebecca, I love all of them. On a side note, you look GREAT!!! Have you lost weight? I love the use of the eyeliner and it was so creative. :-)
How could anyone not love this woman?
Dear Rebecca, yes I usually take self pics in a mirror. The mirror in our little downstairs bathroom in fact, since it has a pretty deep rosy paint on the walls. :-)
Sometimes I leave my hand-on-camera in the pic. Sometimes I crop it out. Don't mind the cam but at times, my fingers holding it, look too large, since they are 'closer' if you know what I mean. :-)
Aunt Amelia
I moved blog addresses, Rebecca. I look forward to the berry theme . . .
Berries- i just got a letter from Whole Foods saying that Strawberries and Raspberries are in short supply.
Okay...so I finally posted after screwing it up everytime...and I will probably next week too ha. I loved them all...especially the one where your eyes are all clear blue...Fabulous! I think that you need to take back that you are unphotogenic...liar.
