Five weeks ago (Has it really been that long?!?!) I decided in the midst of the Winter and 1st trimester blues, I needed some drastic measures to get out of my sullen "funk". I decided then to take on one craft project a week until spring.
I HAVE been completing one project each week since I started, though you wouldn't know it by my postings here. Just haven't had a chance to post pictures....
Until now.
Let's get caught up, shall we?!
Week 1: Bread Cloth (That's the only one I had posted! sheesh!)
Week 2: Matt's birthday Hat
*Matt is rarely home when it is light out. Finally, I resorted to the mini-Matt for modeling.
Heaven forbid he actually smile....
That's better. How do you like the backward turtleneck? He is stylin'.
It has an army green band...for style...and because I nearly ran out of gray. (shhhh. don't tell) I like it better with the stripe anyway!
And cute little "almost" ear flaps. Not too dangly and obnoxious but definite ear coverage.
I found the pattern on Ravelry (where else?!) called The Bullet.
Week 3: Strawberry Hat
~A friend had a little 5 pound dumpling as cute as can be and this is my way of celebrating. Guess what? I altered a basic newborn beanie pattern ALL BY MYSELF and created this lovely berry. I will be posting a pattern when I have time to type it up. (YAY! I am so proud of myself!)

It should fit a VERY tiny head... (wish I gave birth to five pounders instead of nine...)
See that leaf and stem? Totally made that up...ALL BY MYSELF. You amazing crocheters/knitters, forgive me. Straying from patterns is totally new to me. Making patterns UP is something I figured was WAY out of my league.
I added a small ruffle pattern to the bottom of the hat and sewed little black trios of seedbeads around the hat for the strawberry seeds. In doing so, I also discovered an awesome way for their not to be threads uglying up the inside of the hat.
I am afraid more of these are going to be in my future.
WEEK 4: Skirts for Haiti
Randi at I Have to Say organized a bunch of volunteers to sew skirts to be taken to a Haitian orphanage (or two) by a missionary group. Things like this really make me happy. So I chimed in.
I had hoped to make more, but three is all I was able to finish before I mailed them for the deadline.
I made a twirly skirt: which is my second most favorite skirt ever sewn to date. First favorite here. Corynn would have loved to twirl in this skirt...it twirls like no one's business.
Then there is the very pink, very girlie skirt with a pocket. This one is more A-line than twirly. But I can imagine a little girl just dying over those butterflies.
And the last one is a pillowcase dress for a little one: I fabric painted some circle designs on it to break up the stripes and to sorta match the ribbon.
All three together:
I really love doing things like this because, while I am, I can almost imagine the delight and joy of the girls who get them. Someone in Haiti is going to be wearing the skirts *I* sewed for them!
I had hoped to finish the skirts right away and blog them with hopes more of you would like to participate-but time got away from me. BUT. Randi just posted that she is extending the deadline for another week so if you happen to be a fast seamstress and can jump at the chance...please do! I am sure it would make a girlie VERY happy.
WEEK 5 is this week, and if I ever get off this computer I might be able to get started on the project I have in mind!!!!!
Think boys. Think Easter. Think green shower curtain?!? Yes.
;-)
that strawberry hat! Oh! Love it all, and can't wait to see what else you come up with.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful projects! So much fun! And I sure would love to see that sweet cousin of mine in her strawberry hat! Oh, I happened to notice that you missed Week 3 somehow. ;) Can't wait to see what you're making this week! I need to get pictures taken of my projects and onto my blog, hopefully tonight or tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to decide which one of your projects is my favorite. They are all fantastic!! I love the skirts, but just knowing the milestone you passed with the strawberry hat project is sooooo exciting. (I'll warn you, though, you don't realize the Pandora's Box you just opened. . . You'll never quite be satisfied if you don't put your own little twist on your crochet projects now. :D
ReplyDeleteI love love love the strawberry hat. You need to make bigger ones for your girls. It is so adorable. GREAT JOB! It is my favorite craft that you have made thus far.
ReplyDeleteI must have miscounted then, Leah, because that is all I had (but I *KNOW* I have made something every week.
ReplyDeleteI never have been good with numbers... ;-)
OH the skirts and strawberry hat are wonderful! What a wonderful cause...
ReplyDeleteJust commented on your other post but must be off. If I can get a bunch today, maybe I can sew a couple of skirts... OH I have the most adorabel girl fabric. Won it in a giveaway, woo hoo!
Gotta go!!
You are right- that strawberry hat is "deliciously sweet" :) I LOVE IT :) Wouldn't it be cool if you could adapt sizes to make matching ones for Adele' and your new baby (if it's a she) and then a pageboy style cap for Corynn to match! :)
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness!! I LOVE the strawberry hat, I am crazy about strawberry stuff for Leiella, I even thought of her as my little strawberry when I was pregnant with her. I wish I was crafty enough to make one of those for her, or even had the time to do it...Ha! It's super adorable, and the skirts are too, you are amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your projects girl! Would love to know if you used a pattern for the pink girls skirt? Blessings :)Jess
ReplyDeleteJess~ I didn't use a pattern. Just went with the amount of fabric I had available. There are lots of free tutorials for skirts online though!
ReplyDeleteI just popped over from the Femina Blog Party -- and your blog is so delightful. I love all of your projects that you have completed over the past few weeks. What a great way to wait for spring.
ReplyDeleteThe hat is darling!
ReplyDeleteIt is all so sweet, Rebecca! I made my first knitted hat for my Ella that was similar to your strawberry hat except um...not ANYWHERE near as cute! I call it the acorn hat...same sorta shape but brown. Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the pic of Andrew's grin under that hat...priceless!
