Way back when I saw a tutorial for an infinity dress and saved the link for whenever I got the chance. Well, several months LATER.............
I *finally* 'got the chance'.
An hour later my love and I were heading out to an anniversary lunch and I very hastily decided THAT was the right moment to make it. Insane? I know.
I happened to have a bolt of knit fabric I got at Wal*Mart (5 yards, 5 bucks) that had been intended for this very purpose.
The result, after 20 minutes, was NOT a dress. At least, not on this 6 foot tall body. (Yes, I envy you short, petite and sweet people. I am working on it.)
On me, it is more like a.....uh......TUNIC. yeah. That's it.
But I like it anyhow.
I figure in the winter it would be kinda sweet (and warm) with a long sleeve black shirt underneath and a pair of jeans or leggings. Because those days are fast approaching...
I love it! And yes, it would be super cute with jeans
ReplyDeleteMy question is about he flowers in your hair. I notice you often wear them, and wonder how long they stay looking pretty? And, how do you get them to stay?
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen "Here Comes the Groom", with Bing Crosby and Jane Wyman? There is this one part where Bing Crosby asks this very tall (and very beautiful) woman why she never wears high heels. She says, looking down, "Well, if you must know, I'm too tall." "What!' he answers. "Do you think Joan of Arc was a petite little thing?! or [all the great ladies of old] were short? No!!! they were all gloriously TALL!" Anyway, she changes her mind and starts being proud of her height and eventually gets her man. It's pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, that's a beautiful dress. I'm sure Joan of Arc would have worn a tunic just like that! :P :D
I love that first photo of you! :) So pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the sewing, girl!!! Now I know what it means to "whip up something to wear"! ;)
The exact same thing happened to me when I tried to make an infinity dress last year! (and I'm only 5'3")It looks super cute on you, anyway, though. :)
ReplyDeleteTracy~ they are fake. I hotglue silk flowers onto barrettes and pin them in. So they last and stay looking nice a LOOONNNNG time! hehehe
ReplyDeleteLeah~ I haven't seen that movie but sounds good to me! ;-) PS. I wear heels every Sunday. I can hate my height but it will never stop me from loving cute shoes. :-)
Cute! You did a great job! *Jealous*
ReplyDeleteForgot to add: I thought you might like this Crochet Along. http://oxfordfam.blogspot.com/2011/08/crochet-along-week-1.html . I am participating and putting my efforts on my blog. Hope you'll join me. It would make a great Christmas present for someone!
ReplyDeleteStacy
Hooray for Rebecca! Now you can no longer say that you have not made not only a dress that fits you, well okay, a tunic that fits you (lol). It looks absolutely STUNNING on you! Length is easy to remedy in you next attempt.
ReplyDeleteThe dress length would also make a great jumper in cooler weather.
Congrats on a great job!!!!!!11
Stacy~ ugh! I wish the crochet along was AFTER Christmas-from Jan to March or something. I am planning an all-homemade Christmas again this year and really need to devote all my time to Christmas gifts and a rather large craft show I am taking part in.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like so much fun though-and what I wouldn't give for such a beautiful afghan in the end.
Thanks for thinking of me...
Okay, I must have been drunk when I typed that second sentence...that's suppposed to say Now you can no longer say that have not made a dress that fits you...
ReplyDeleteyou take up drinking now, Nanci?
ReplyDeleteAh ha! I have wondered how you kept fresh flowers looking so "fresh", and now I know. You don't! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNo, haven't taken to strong drink (yet), although people probably wonder if I have when they see some of the strange things I do. My dear husband says that since I am always drinking something, it's a very good thing that I don't like the taste of alcohol.
ReplyDeleteLove It, Love It, Love It :)
ReplyDeleteYou MADE that?!?! Holy cow girl! I envy you and your talentedness (not a word but so what!)!!
ReplyDeleteDarn tootin that looks like something you could buy at some overly priced retail store like Nordstroms! You rock!!
I love it! It's cute and chick and I love the flowers in your hair!
And I think it would look lovely in the winter with jeans and a long black shirt underneath!
Impressive! My chin seriously hit the floor when I read that you made that!

Laura~ can you sew a straight seam? If you can, you can rock this dress AND make it too.
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, you only sew ONE seam! Check out the link to it I posted if you don't believe me! (And thanks for your compliment!)
Lovely-- it and you both!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute dress......I'm such a novice when it comes to a sewing machine, but I'm totally going to try this out!
