We are currently loving the original Elsie Dinsmore series- just finished book3,LOVE Treasures of the Snow by Patricia St John, and also Saved at Sea by O.F.Walton,AND I love The Dairyman's Daughter by Legh Richmond.
ReplyDeleteClaire
All 8 books in the Anne of Green Gables series and To Kill a Mockingbird are the first that jump to mind. I love listening to mystery/spy writers on CD, such as James Patterson and John Higgins. Anything by Nelson Demille that features John Corey and his wife are great, too.
ReplyDeleteOn the non-fiction side, I'm currently reading "Be Thrifty, not cheap" and It's All Too Much, an organization book that deals with the mind before it deals with the stuff. My daughter is FINALLY impressed with The Tightwad Gazette because it has a recipe for homemade condensed milk, one of her new favorite "foods".
I love the Elsie Dinsmore series especially for young girls.
ReplyDeleteCarry On, Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham.
At the Back of the North Wind & Lilith by George MacDonald.
Can't wait to check some of these out! I have some of our favorites listed at the old blog and I'm also on Goodreads with like almost 300 books I want to read! ;)
ReplyDeleteA couple favorites with the children (especially Annie) lately were Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster and Owls in the Family by Farley Mowat!
I can't wait to check out the Terrestria Series!!! Sounds awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteOoh! "A Lantern in Her Hand" is a great one. And "A Severe Mercy" is one of the best books I've ever read, although it IS a tear-jerker. I've read it several times and I cry every time.
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE the Herriot books! Those are the best. :D
Do you like Dickens at all? One of my absolute favorite books by him is "Our Mutual Friend." Not sure how easy it'd be to read with kiddos though.
Also, a non-fiction book that my husband and I have been working through that we find excellent is "Radical" by David Platt. Very convicting, but very good.
So many favorites! I can't wait to check out some of the books you mentioned that I haven't read yet. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Fleece & Fiber Sourcebook, The Knitter's Book of Wool and Start Spinning are all great for learning about sheep, wool, and spinning.
