Tame Lions and Tomatoes : Yarn Along

I've been doing very little reading lately (none) except for the occasional reference back to Carrots Love Tomatoes, hands in garden gloves and knees covered in dirt, while I sneak extra little seeds here and there in the occasional free spot in the garden(s).  The garden has been, basically, my life for the last week or so but today it is pouring down rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for this afternoon so I am very cheerfully forcing myself to get out of the garden work and begin reorganizing the upstairs.

I absolutely *adore* little knit rompers but being such a novice knitter, they seem so far beyond me.  When Ineke was born, I was given a gift card for Walmart.  So I used it at Walmart for groceries and decided to splurge on something knitted from Etsy with the same amount of grocery money.  An even exchange, right?!  ;-)  I got the romper last week and, well, I love it.   I wish I could knit as well as I would like- there would be rompers, rompers everywhere!  In every color!

Our little town has a 'Fireman Field Days' to benefit the fire department and one of the activities is a parade.  But I have to say- the parade is kinda pathetic.   A few cars.  A fire engine or two.  Maybe a tractor, if the farmers are feeling kinda frisky.  I told the children last year we need to liven up the parade a bit and make ourselves a float.

Thinking of our options and realizing last Sunday it is in a mere two weeks, I knew we needed to keep the theme simple and easy to come together.  Thanks to some experience (and leftover supplies) and some convenient on-hand dress-up options, we decided on a circus theme.  Everyone has a dress-up idea.  There will be a clown, a fortune teller, a ringleader, a circus horse rider, a strong man, a lion tamer and... a lion!  Guess who gets to be the lion?!

I looked through my stash and found an almost perfect match to the romper and quite a few fuzzy/fun yarns (all of which have been passed along to me from others!) and started crocheting a lion hat.  A few more rows of mane, a couple of ears poking out and a cute little tail and at least ONE costume will be done!
