What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

Beets and Babies

"Lookie here Mama!  I'm gonna do it.... Watch it!  Watch it!"

"No hands!!!!"

(In which she waits for the cheering applause...)

Words are hard to come by these days for me.  Sickness and allergies, bills and beets, daily education x4, tales of woe,  tales that induce belly-aching laughter.   Figuring out how to add additional income to our lives for some outrageously expensive orthodontic care for one son.  Figuring out how to get the other, younger son to not leave disaster in his wake at every moment and to take care and think things through....like closing the freezer door in the milkhouse instead of leaving it open for HOURS- nearly ruining everything inside or forgetting that the hose is on in the pasture; his job being to fill the water container for the animals and not the entire pasture.  (six year olds!)  Figuring out how to get sisters to be best friends and not competitors.  Rooms that go from clean to....emphatically NOT SO within the space of minutes.  Piles of beets, some as big as your head  and the mess that canning them brings.  Kittens that infuriatingly come running into the house whenever the kitchen door opens- which is ridiculously often.  A rat that thinks he is a pet.  Concern for our nation.  Concern for the church.

These are some seriously bursting days.  Words are hard to come by, but my mind is always in a whirl.

But this:

Psssst!  I finally finished the merriment bonnet!  My first colorwork bonnet!  I started it before I knew I was pregnant with my Tiddle (knowing it was a very small project to screw up), ripped it out too many times to count, and thankfully the gauge was off enough for the newborn size to fit her now, at 9 months old, with just the simple addition of a small band across the bottom to heighten the whole thing for her big noggin.  I love it, needless to say.  But, I love her more.

Next up, a little baby heartwarmer to match.

I think I've said this before, but your kids are seriously adorable! And THAT HAT! :) I can't believe Ineke's standing! (Can you remind me on the the pronunciation again? :)

I hear you on the real life stuff. Minus the canning. I don't do that. Ever. ;)

Great quote to remind us that He's got this under control.

The worries of country, church, and children are with all of us, no matter how old your children are (mine in their 30s). We can only do what we can do. God is in control even if it sometimes seems He is more distant--He isn't. It's a hard time in the country now, but a very interesting time. Our country will come out of this and eventually be okay, no matter the results in a few weeks. The children grow and find their own paths, sisters are sisters, even through times of difficulty, and the church is always there. Stories of watering the pasture will bring lots of laughter in later years. The children will recall their childhood with fondness and love for their parents and wonderment of "how you did it"!

I love the bonnet--it's a beautiful work of your talent and patience in learning a new technique. Surely a family heirloom. And those beets... WoW! Your country photography is beautiful as always. Do I recall you have an Etsy shop? Can't remember, but if not, maybe think about it: photography, girl's capes, Coryn's mermaid dolls, etc... You are full of talent!

I most heartily second the idea of an Etsy shop! (Do you have one already? What, again, was the cute name of your recipe site? Sugarbear?)

Precious Precious Precious (and prayers...) If you restart your etsy shop and let us all know I'm confident you will be able to make money if you put some of your knitting projects like that beautiful bonnet on there! Something definitely to consider to help financially!! And start doing some photography advertising as well... Set up your sessions at your home only and that way the older can help care for the younger during your shoots :)

Catie- thanks! Your comment made me laugh! Oh, and Ineke is pronounced EE-nuh-kuh .

Ulli and Elizabeth- at one time I did have an Etsy shop. And I have thought about making things and trying to sell them. The only problem being...my snail-like turnover rate. I am proud of the things I make, but squeezing time to make one or two things here and there is challenge enough. This bonnet for example took over A YEAR to complete. At that rate, we could afford orthodontic care for Andrew when his teeth are rotting away in a casket. (That was dark and depressing.) Moving on to lighter things.

Well, brighter perhaps, not LIGHTER...

Anonymous- my nearly abandoned recipe blog is sgrbearskitchen.blogspot.com. Another thing I have wonderful intentions to work on frequently but never find time for. ;-)

I've missed your posts! Many of the things that are on your mind are on my mind, too. <3

Love Merriment Bonnet is just stunning! You did an awesome job with it! I love it! Should God bless us with another baby girl someday I' definitely making it. I made a heartwarmer when I was pregnant with Luke. Of course, him being a boy it didn't get used. But again, should we have another girl she can use it. :)I even named the project after a little girl we haven't had yet, http://www.ravelry.com/projects/blessedNjoyful/lark-rise.
