What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

Yarn Along

I took a quick break from the shawl last week to crochet up this pretty little bonnet for a friend.

I love it.  I love the design, I love the ease of stitching, I love the old-fashioned feel.

I always feel I ought to be practical when I make things (and even moreso when giving things as gifts) so white, since it matches everything, was the obvious choice.

BUT~ couldn't you just see a bit of color in that medallion on back?    Like purple and green?  Or a pop of bright red?

I am thinking I'll be making a colorful version of this soon!  Though I don't know of any new or upcoming girlies in the near future, it will be a nice thing to set aside for whenever the need may arise.

Pattern:   Blessing Day Bonnet

What about you?

Do you think it is better to stick with practical colors on projects or to go with your instincts?

Would you rather receive something colorful and unique or something that can coordinate well with anything?

I've been reading Flourish: Balance for Homeschool Moms by Mary Jo Tate.

You'll be hearing more about it~ I'll be reviewing it in a few weeks.

Following along with Ginny and her yarn along...

Beautiful bonnet, Rebecca! Looks like we're cruising through the same sites--I printed both the bonnet and wedding shawl patterns. Love the idea of color on the back of the bonnet, too. Now I'm inspired!

Such a beautiful bonnet! I, too, tend to be practical and go with neutral colors but I love the idea of adding more color to the back of it.

I'm working birthday presents. We have 3 birthdays within 10 days so my fingers have been flying. LOL Samuel's elephant is done except for eyes and tail. John's monster just needs to be seemed together. Hannah's hippo has a head and I'll start the body tomorrow. I have a lots of projects planned for after these gifts are done. Socks for Scott should be at the top of the list.

I've really been enjoying spending some time in the afternoons spinning. I'm about halfway done with the fiber I'm working on now.

Right now I'm reading Pennsylvania by Michael Bunker. It's an Amish sci-fi book which I know sounds crazy but it's been a really great book!

Great bonnet, a real delight. I personally would like to have a bit of colour so your idea is inspirational. However, for a gift I think you made a wise choice.

I personally think the one color is perfect for this bonnet. It is so sweet and pure in white! As for your idea of adding just a pop of red on the back - sorry, but that immediately brought to my mind a question of, "yikes, is the baby bleeding?"

I think I'd switch it up with ribbon ties. Very cute Rebecca! (and it's making me wish I had the need for one. I've got the baby bug bad. But as I told B., I'll probably be 80 and have the baby bug, so there you are.)

Lovely bonnet! I like it BOTH ways. How's that for being difficult? ;)

This is beautiful Rebecca! I also tend to be practical with the gifts I give. I like the idea of using ribbons to give that colour. I'm enjoying catching up on your blog. I've been thinking of you and wondering how your cow is going? Any calves ? I know it seemed to take forever from the time Bessy's bag began to change to when she had the calf.
Have a lovely day
Renata:)
