I've had clothes hanging on the line for pret'near a week but the rains have come and decided to linger, and with them, the C.O.L.D.
I've had pumpkins and beets to harvest, but who wants to go to the garden when you'd get cold and wet in the process?
These things have waited patiently until yesterday when the sun poked out (momentarily) and I quickly got the pumpkins and clothes done. The beets? Well, they just have to wait for the next sunpoke.
I wish I could say staying inside keeps us warm but...inside is just about as cold as outside. Sometimes colder, in fact. The indoor temp at the start of the week started at 61 and by today, has made its way down to 54. *SHIVER* Thankfully, I unpacked all the chillins' winter clothing for them last week. I only wish I could say the same for us grown-ups.
In an effort to thwart the cold and postpone our "first day of heat" date (yes---we try and outdo ourselves every year. We ARE that lame, thankyouverymuch) I have been busy trying to keep the kitchen warm. On the UP side, I've been productive!
This was two days ago:
A hot breakfast.
A hot lunch.
1 load of pears, dehydrated
25 jars of grape juice, canned
8 jars of jalapeno jelly, canned
3 pounds of bacon, cooked and frozen
1 pot of Potato Corn Chowder, simmered
This is today:
A hot breakfast.
A hot lunch.
1 load of pears, dehydrated
1 batch of chocolate chip cookies, baked
Grape Jelly, canned
Homemade Pizza, for dinner
Two loaves communion bread, baked for Sunday
Maybe some cinnamon rolls, for tomorrow??
LOTS of dishes (and I actually don't MIND them!)
All this cold got me to thinking about those things still left to do before Old Man Winter (and his chilly Mistress Fall) come a calling.
* Unpack grown-up winter duds
*Make fleece slippers for Corynn and I, and Addie Mae
*Make leg warmers for the babycakes
*Make draft dodgers for all doors (there are eight. sheesh)
*Get stove up and running
*Unload massive amounts of blankets and quilts. (Each spring I pack them away wondering if I REALLY need that many blankets. Each fall, I am reminded why I do indeed.)
*Finish up the garden chores. BEETS?! WINTER SQUASH?! BRUSSEL SPROUTS?! I love you~even if I have been neglecting you!)
So much to do: so little time.

I had to laugh when I read this post...not at you, but at me! I am such a wimp. We live in the AZ desert, and I was shivering when I woke up this morning because our inside temp. had dropped "all the way" to 77!! And, I was beyond thrilled to see that the outside temp. had (finally!) reached a downright frigid 60!! ;)
Wish I could send you some of our sunny days...I'd gladly trade for a few of your rainy ones!! :) Sounds like you are finding lots of fun ways to keep busy though... :)

Sounds very much like my days! I need to go clean out the garden too. I had hoped to get it done yesterday, but it was chilly, very windy, and since Babino decided NOT to nap, I couldn't very well bring her out. Maybe tomorrow, we're having a bonfire, and my dead plants are an eyesore....
B just asked me a few minutes ago if we needed to add an extra blanket to the children's beds- um YES!
Well, the dishwasher is almost done, which means my baking stuff will be clean and I need to get started on round 2 of baking: pizza, sheet cake, and doughnuts (the latter 2 for the fire).
I made your popcorn balls- SO GOOD! There might not be any left for tomorrow!
I know what you mean about the chilliness...dont you just love to hate it! I made veg. beef soup yesterday...and it was sooo good...but it takes a crisp day like these to really appreciate it.
Also...I just want to thank you again for doing these photo challenges...I seem to tend to everything but myself...and this has been such a true joy to me...I look forward to it..and feel like I am doing myself such a favor...Im sure Ive told you before...but I just want to say it again...Thanks.
I love that you called Adele "Addie Mae". My daughter's name is Adiela Mae, and she is "Adi Mae" to me. Pronounced with a long A instead of a short A, though. I love reading your blog... you inspire me!

I'm sorry I've been so distant lately. Sometimes I feel so inadequate and way too to be a mom. Anyway, glad to see things are going so well for the Newman clan! Your kids are so cute and they are growing up way, way too fast. Adele will be 1 next month! Unbelievable. Your little Thanksgiving Bunkin!
