What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

Common things

"It's amazing how lovely common things become, if only one knows how to look at them. "

~ Louisa May Alcott

# 706-724 common, lovely things.

706~ vibrant flowers in a sea of green. My winter garden.

707~ warm socks

708~ heated floors

710~ When I was sick last night and went to bed at 6:30 with a pounding head I weakly asked Matt if he would come to bed soon and do whatever he planned on doing that evening in bed. So he would be near me. I figured he would think I had fallen asleep, that I wouldn't know either way, and wouldn't come. In and out of consciousness I heard him wash the dishes for me and then put the children to bed, and then-I felt him. Without opening my eyes, I smiled and whispered "I didn't think you'd come.." and he whispered to me in a most lovely voice "you asked me to, didn't you?"

711~ a head less throbbing today

712~ a package for Andrew in the mail. His belated Christmas present. A *VERY* happy boy.

713~ herbs still hanging on, but pining for summer as often as I.

714~ the smell of stock, to remind me of my wedding day.

715~ beautiful hankies from a friend, making a perfect runner under purple and white.

716~ my camera

717~ lavender scented towels

718~ old, scratchy towels. The kind that actually SOAK up the water instead of smear it. Matt's favorite.

719~ an orchid baby. TWO

720~ well water

721~ music

722~ bowls of petals, long gone. Because I can't seem to throw them away even when they are dead.

723~ fresh pineapple, a rare and most wonderful treat

724~ sugar cookie candle in a bed of roses (see # 722)

Oh, what lovely lives we lead.

holy experience

I enjoy your photos so much! We have that same afghan. . . my husband's dad's wife made it for us for our wedding. It's different colors though - cream with green and goldish colors.
Thankyou for sharing!

Lovely, Lovely simple every day things that we seem to forget to be thankful for. ;)

I love the simple beauty of the beautiful hand kerchiefs on your table!

Thank you for sweetly and simply reminding me to be thankful for those little lovely things.

((((hugs))))

The contentment that comes with recognizing—and loving, and upholding—the nobility of the commonplace is a treasure.

May I ask how you dried the daffodils? I've never seen any hold up like that before, but then maybe I've never tried. :)

You're children are so darling and beautiful, Rebecca. I love watching your family grow.

Breezy~ it is always such a pleasure to hear from you! I always just let me daffodils dry standing up on their stems, whether in a vase or in soil. Then I just snip off their heads.

Rebecca,
Mom wanted me to leave a message for you- She says she's been trying to call you since Sunday when she found out you were sick, and has called multiple time a day and keeps getting a busy signal. She's afraid that maybe your phone is down and you don't know it.

I just tried, and it was busy as well- if you could please call mom as soon as you have a chance, she'd really like to talk to you! Love Ya and Hope you are feeling better!!!

I'm glad to hear of the headache's exit and of the Mister's kindness. If Matt continues this saintly electronic presence, I'm buying him a halo! :) (Wherever does one buy a halo, anyway?)

My beastly post is finally up and now I've no excuse for slipping away without commenting. So here's a comment.

I reallyenjoy your blog.

Aaaand, one benefit of being caught in the electronic net again is not only that I once again can enjoy your beautiful photography but also that Lord's Day conversation no longer seems as urgent, tho' I still enjoy it. :)

When would you and the children be free to climb Mt. Hunger to the tippy-top? It's due time for that fabled get-together, and I'm contacting everyone to figure out a date.

I say, anyone who would give you such adorable hankies must be someone extra special. ;)

(And she must like you a lot.)
