What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

My Heart

I don't know what it says about me exactly, but I like to celebrate with food.

I love to feast on special occasions. I love to make food that compliments the occasion. I love to make food that not only tastes great but adds to the festivities and decor.

I love to create color schemes and themes for dinners. I love candlelight dinners and picking background music. I love folding cloth napkins. I love splurging on fresh flowers for the table.

I love. love. love. feasting.

(Even when I don't have a dishwasher and a tornado hits the kitchen directly afterward. ick. And even when Judah gets fussy and blows out of his diaper as soon as we sit down to eat. rats. Nope, nothing can ruin it for me.)

My love made one more step toward geezerhood (hehe) and had a birthday on Sunday. He knows that part of his gift is the feasting and looks forward to it every year. THIS year, we invited his twin brother and sister-in-law to share in the festivities.

His requested meal:

Chicken Cordon Bleu
Mashed Red Potatoes
White Wine Cream Gravy
Roasted Asparagus
Caramelized Onion Tart

and of course, we had wine with it.

I decided I wanted the color theme to be dark red and chocolate brown with a bit of white thrown in. Kindof~ red wine and dark chocolate themed. Or- chocolate covered strawberries.

Along with the requested foods, I added some chocolate dribbled strawberries and cream, chocolate conversation heart cookies and some lovely bruschetta for snacking until supper.

His favorite cake has always been and will always (likely) be white cake with peanut butter frosting. Ironically, his twin brother Johns favorite cake is CHOCOLATE cake with peanut butter frosting. So I thought it would be nice to make them both their favorites into ONE cake.

I made the two batches of cake then cut each 9 inch round circle in half and layered it so one half would be white and one half would be chocolate. I used plenty of peanut butter frosting to glue the sides together. It worked out smashingly.

Company came early and I always feel SUPER weird about taking pictures of things like tables and food when people are around (am I alone in this??) so I never got a picture of most of the food or the table but it was beautiful. (Dark red table cloth with brown runner. Beaded red diamond placemat in center with red roses and white stock in a crystal vase with brown river rocks on bottom. Gold candlesticks with white candles on either side. Matching platters just recently given to us. Red glass water goblets. Loveliness.)

Didn't get a picture of the birthday boy either, but he is too.

He is the king of my heart.

Wow, Rebecca, that is quite the feast. Very nice. I made bruschetta with toasted bread (in the oven with a little olive oil sprinkled over?) for last Sunday's afternoon snack too! (Only I usually use fresh mozzarella - soooo good!)

Oh my land that bruschetta has my mouth watering!
I planned a feast for V. day. It bombed. I may post on it as part of my recovery therapy. I'm slightly exaggerating. Slightly.
I feel funny too, taking pictures of the table, especially when people say 'oh for your blog?", in a tone reserved for children....
Your menu made me hungry, I love planning feasts too!

I love celebrating with food and I show my love with food and decorating. Everything looked lovely, Rebecca. I thought I was the only one who got embarrassed taking pictures of food when others are around. In fact, I get embarrassed taking any picture when someone else is there.

Happy Birthday, Matt!

I second what bobbi said. And I have also told my christian friends about you. I love you and I don't even know you! You are an inspiration to me, I have so many of the same hobbies and love for my husband and children as you do. I really just don't understand how you get so much done in a day, makes me wonder where my time is really going. Keep up the good news and work. You have also inspired me to start a blog too. It's in the early infancy stage now as I don't know much about HTML and all that stuff. God Bless you and your family! becca

I love feasting, too, and what a beautiful celebration you created! My family is used to my grabbing the camera whenever I've made a new recipe or a special dinner...but yes, if guests were around, that would be a bit awkward.

The cake is so creative!

I share my birthday with the IRS, and they've never prepared me a feast-- not once! It looks scrumptious, especially the bruschetta. I guess I'm longing for summer, after all...

Well done and happy birthday to your Mister!

Yum! YUM!!! I want some bruschetta NOW! ;) I'm the opposite with people and pictures! LOL! I force them to let take 'em! HAHA! That's why they hate me...jk jk!! ;) I understand sometimes it is hard to get out the camera with loads of peeps around...I think it's harder for me because I just forget if I'm busy! :P

My man was gone 32 hours straight starting Valentine's morning, so we didn't really do any celebrating!

Can you post the peanut butter frosting recipe?? Pretty please with a peanut on top? :D

Don't you hate it when Matt leaves anonymous comments? He's so vain.
