What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

Tied up with String

I have been a bad, bad blogger the last few weeks. Those of you who didn't give up on me and went off in search of cooler people (or at the very least, more active) in blogdom, thank you. Fore those who did, I completely understand. I wouldn't visit me either.

I figured a photo-intensive post may make amends to those few readers left. Thankfully, I have been quite behind for SOME TIME so even though my camera has been on a restful hiatus, I still have plenty to blog. So here is to lots of pictures, few words, getting back on track, and starting fresh.

“I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.”
Laura Ingalls Wilder

~ communion bread rising on the patio~

~ a note Corynn wrote for me. She found the poem in a book and thought I would like it.

I do. ~

~ we have had our fair share of amphibians this summer. They are caught DAILY, or so it seems.~

The children are so enthusiastic about it. The frogs? Not so much.

It even got so bad as we began RAISING them. We found newly hatched eggs. (*ahem* Sorry Mrs. Toad)

And watched them hatch. And then shortly thereafter, die.

So we caught a bunch of tadpoles. And watched them turn from tadpole to pollywog to eventual

frog.
26 of them, I believe.

Some were wee peepers. Some were larger. And yes, a few of them died as well. If there is a frog shortage this summer, it is likely due to us Newmans.

Andrew found stuff in the barns and decided to make a ducky river. Clever boy.

~ finding more STUFF in barns. Bet you wish you had your very own construction worker for hire. ~

~ painted rocks and milksnakes ~

~ a stroller hammock for a tired boy~

~ my nieces. Two of them, anyway.~

~ oops. ANOTHER. (now you understand!) ~

~ nearly bedtime~

~ a bunch of homemade pizzas from Friday Night pizza nights~

I have fully intended to document my "how many different pizzas can I make?" challenge each Friday over at my recipe blog, but haven't actually done so. And I won't even tell you how many other foods are photographed but without a typed recipe. Seems I can't manage more than one blog very well. Truth is, I can't even manage ONE blog very well these days. (Can I get an AMEN?)

For the record:
Back when we were discussing pizzas, I don't even remember when, many of you asked for my dough recipe. I haven't forgotten you. I was going to make a video for it, which is why it has taken so long. Maybe I will just put a ca-bash on the video thing and post the recipe already! Just know, I haven't forgotten you. I have just been lame. I am sorry. You will forgive me upon first bite of it, of that I am certain.

"Never lose an opportunity of seeing
anything that is beautiful
for beauty is God's handwriting
- a wayside sacrament.
Welcome it in every fair face,
in every fair sky,
in every fair flower,
and thank God for it as
a cup of blessing."

You told us you wouldn't be on here much, so nobody better act surprised! The upside is we get a long photo oozing post. Loved all the pictures, I have taken hardly any myself lately, glued to the canner as I have been. Plus, I'm just about out of space on my card, and I have a hard time deleting pictures, even when they have been loaded onto the computer, I feel like I'm deleting my children.
I will wait for a pizza dough video, (since you like to pretend you're on a cooking show when you cook anyway, I think it would be fun to watch;^} ) so take your time.
Andrew is quite the creative boy, Corynn quite the sweet little girl ,and Adele and Judah quite the darlings to look at!

Love the update and ALL the pics! Funny how "busy" those "lazy" days of summer turn out to be :)

Looking forward to the dough recipe...whenever it is ready :)

I have not posted on my blog in a month! EEK! I have lots of catching up to do but we started school yesterday so who knows when that will happen.

Glad you are back and glad you are enjoying your summer.

I can't imagine giving up your blog just because you've been too busy to post! We were warned and I knew you'd be back. Lovely photos and creative children - do they get it from both of you or just from you?

So yeah, I looked around and all the cooler people were no fun, so I'm back with you. :P

I love the note Corynn wrote to you (and her adorable illustration), and I love the stroller hammock, and that totally sweet ducky river, and of course, um, those pizzas!

I am always amazed at how well and beautifully you do keep up your blog. (I, for one, know how hard it is!) Yours is the first blog I ever looked at (and was actually interested in) and I've been hooked ever since!

Happy summer Rebecca. :)

Rebecca! Why are you always so down on yourself! You do things that leave me standing in awe, and it seems you do them so effortlessly! Keep up the good work, but do relax every now and then!

Dear One, thank you for posting and I know the reason you are absent of late...I too have this, so I understand. Having a husband at home is far more important than blogging! and he is worth more too :)...so being thankful for each post and not condemning :) love and hugs!!!mumofeight

I love the stroller hammock picture. Reminds me of all of my siblings being little (I'm 4th of 11). It also reminds me that I want one for lil' babe!

I'm only coming back to tell you that this is my LAST visit. You took too long to post, and you deserve the consequences.

But before I stomp off in a huff...

- Corynn's note is a lifelong spirit-lifter. What affirmation!

- I love the duck river. Classic and perfect pictures.

- Milk snakes are beautiful! I wish we had them up here, but I've only ever seen or held them at a zoo. (Of course, I'll take our lacking snake diversity rather than swapping for PA snakes more devious than milk snakes.)

- I'm depressed that Andrew already reads chapter books. Su can read "cat."

HUFF!
STOMP!
(*slamming door*)

much love,

Abby~ the milksnake is not real- I painted it on a stick that looked snakish to me. And Andrew, as much as I would love to tout his abilities, can not even read CAT. He is waiting for Corynn to come back from the bathroom so I can continue reading our family read aloud before bed. No need for your stomping or huffing, only mine. :-)

HA! That's what I get for glancing at the picture. And now that I've taken a second look, I see that that's NOT REALLY Corynn standing on the grass in the sunshine, either; it's just a cleverly painted rock.

Very cool!

p.s. I was being facetious about Andrew. If he really was reading books of that size, I'd be too depressed to even comment. :)
