What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

Foto Friday: SNOW

Last week's photo challenge was SNOW ....and let me tell you~ I wasn't feelin' it.

Snow and I don't get along too well these days. SO, you will see from the photos I post that I didn't try too awful hard to think out of the box on this one (tsk, tsk)...unless of course, you think dunking a finger in snow is an especially thoughtful and unique concept. :-)

Here are my contributions:

Apparently, the snow caught this truck driver off-guard. Hopefully, he will get a plow out soon....

I went for a walk one day hoping for something snowy and substantial to photograph. I was by myself when I noticed this remote part of a creekbed. Too far for our animals and children's tracks....yet completely laden with tracks and traces of animals that have been lurking quietly around.

It is awe-inspiring to think how small your life really is in the grand scheme of things.

I tried the "maple syrup on snow turns to candy" experiment and it failed miserably. It just absorbed right into the snow. Turns out it is not syrup you pour on snow but a mixture of molasses and brown sugar (thank you Little House Cookbook). We will try it again sometime. In the meantime, the children say SOMETIMES yellow snow can be DELICIOUS!!!

And for all those folks who don't see a flake of snow the whole winter long, I wanted to encourage you all to think outside the proverbial box. I created gigundo snowflakes from popsicle sticks and hung them from the ceiling.

Now THIS is my kind of snow!

And a BEHIND THE SCENES shot:

Andrew is the bell jingler to get baby to look my way and Corynn is the baby spotter. The snowflakes are hung with fishing line and tape (they are very lightweight).

Check out some other SNOW entries:

In order to participate in these Foto Friday challenges, you must take a photo (or several) pertaining to the challenge WITHIN the challenge week and post it/them to your blog. When you do, please link back to this blog {you may use the button if you like} so that perhaps we can get lots of participants! (Because, you know, the more the merrier!) Then simply link to your Foto Friday post with Mr. McLinky here so that we all can visit you and compare notes...

For those of you new to this blog (or to Foto Friday's in general), each Friday we get a new photo challenge to work on for the week and we post our photos the next Friday and link back up here. Whatever your skill level, the goal is to get behind your camera and to begin, as you practice, to view subjects in a different light. To extend yourself and your concepts and ideas. To create ART instead of just snapping a picture. And to do it all while having FUN.

This week's challenge is much less tangible:

the theme is ::REACHING::

I look forward to seeing your many interpretations of that!!!

I love Adele stretching her little arms up- so sweet! I will be posting this afternoon, School and MOUNTAINS of laundry are keeping me busy right now. Plus, I think I can do better than what I have on my camera right now.
BTW, a finger full of snow: great idea.

I think they are great photos! I forgot about making syrup and putting it on fresh snow. My mom used to do that when I was a child - I loved it! I think we called it Jack Frost dessert or something like that!

well~can you see how Adele' really doesn't respond to them? Sometimes I call her and call her and call her (standing right next to her) and she doesn't respond at all. Then worry. Other times she laughs and jabbers with the best of them and comes when I call and I think "nah".

The girl is elusive. I guess wait and see is all I can do right now.

CONGRATULATIONS to you on your pregnancy! Exciting!!!! :-)

The second photo is my favorite. It looks very calm, and very COLD!

I really like your wooden snowflakes. I have only made paper ones, but might have to try some of those....so cool. I also like you behind the scenes picture.....looks like me trying to get my 10 month old to look :)

If you boil the maple syrup to a hard crack then pour it on the snow it will set up like candy.

Love the photos!

Very neat pics! Very cute kids! And I love your quilt! Is that still considered a log cabin pattern even though they're actually shaped like diamonds? I love it. Did you make it?

Hope your morning sickness isn't getting you down.

I'm not participating for the second week in a row. **hangs head in shame** I just could not think outside of the box; I wanted real snow. lol!

I love the pictures with Adele and the tracks in the snow.

Your picture with the tracks in the snow really caught my attention. You did such a good job of getting dimension with the snow. I have tried to get the same thing to no avail. We see lots of Deer and Elk trails but it seems like the footprints just wash out with a picture.

Beautiful color and thank you for such an encouraging blog, iam excited to try again with photo fridays.

Wow, your pictures are so vivid! The one with Adele on the quilt is exquisite! I wish I had that kind of light puring into MY bedroom! How cheery!

Sorry I am so late in responding: IF you read this:

Dana: thanks SO much for that tidbit. That was serious "duh" moment as soon as I read your comment. Sometimes being blonde is SUCH a pain. X-) We are DEFINITELY going to try that if there is another good snow this winter.

Alisha: thanks so much! The quilt is made of log cabin blocks but then formed into dark/light stripes going down. I did NOT make it, Matt and I received it as a wedding gift from his grandmother. One of the best gifts ever if you ask me. :-)
