What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

A Week of Busy

I have finally ordered the school books for the year (the latest I have EVER ordered them!)-and thanks to FREE 2-DAY shipping- we'll get them this week.  My back-to-school plan, given our more-agrarian lifestyle, is to start full throttle into school on October 1st, but begin easing into it next week.  (We will have fewer days off through the school year-and possibly work longer-to make up for the later start.)  What this means to me is that I have exactly ONE week to get as much accomplished as I can before my days are filled with teaching.  There is SO much to be done.... in the garden, in the house, in the Granary, in our pantry.

In addition to the many daily to-do's I have, here are just a few things I'd like to accomplish before school officially begins:
  • deep clean childrens' rooms
  • finish up the school room.  The map wall is up (I love it!), the intact walls are painted (pretty!), the shelves are orderly and purged of all excess, and the brand-spankin' new Playdoh is awaiting opening.  But there is one wall that was too damaged to paint or cover in maps-so we still have to fix that one.
  • canning up another batch of spaghetti/pizza sauce, beets and carrots.  Dehydrating green peppers and some minced onions.
  • replanting the perennials a neighbor shared with me yesterday
  • taking inventory of cold-weather clothes for the children and get up into the Granary to retrieve anything we have.
  • Finish organizing/tidying the Granary  for the winter (a project I started last summer and then forgot about)
For me, the best way to get a lot of things done is to tell people I am going to do them.  And then, list them out.  I am toying with the idea of inventorying my days here at Renaissance for the week.  Not only would it help me to stay focused, but I thought you might like a "fly on the wall" view of how my weeks roll.  I wonder though, if 1) it might bore you and 2) it might be perceived the wrong way.  Neither of which are helpful.

Not sure if I will or not, but I am sorely tempted!  For now~ I have work to do.

I agree with Bonnie! Do it! :D I could use the inspiration and motivation as well. I was doing pretty well with the sorting and purging then hit a slump. I need to get back to it!

And as to homeschooling, I'd love to hear what you're doing to teach art and music. I need some ideas and inspiration in that area, too.

I love the flexibility of homeschooling. We have to do school now with a new baby coming in December, but generally I prefer to hit the books the hardest in winter as well as the middle of summer when the heat is unbearable and then get more time off during the spring and fall when it's really nice out ... our highs are still around 85-90, so we're just now getting glimpses of something other than "hot".

I hope you accomplish all you've set out to do this week. It's way more than I'd ever get done in a single week!
