What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

Finances on Friday

 *** It has been suggested that I begin a LINK-UP every Friday, for anyone else who wants to share any financial pursuits/inspiration.  Look for that at the bottom of this post... I couldn't get the cool picture linky unless I paid a yearly subscription, but I was able to get a free text linky.  That should do for now.  I hope to see some of you signing up! And, as always, I love to read your comments about your financial endeavors too. ***

My efforts this week~

* I cut all the boys' hair.

* I signed up for Amazon Associate affiliate program- which means, when I link to something I like here on the blog and people follow the link and then buy something, I will get a small percentage of the sale.  I link to things often enough, it might be worth it.  It never hurts to try. (Have you heard that before?)

* made another batch of dried apple chips.  (They disappear like candy around here.)  I think I am going to keep the dehydrator out all winter and do 1-2 batches per week. I have plenty of apples left.

* put a batch of bananas in the dehydrator this morning for banana chips.

* hung comforters and sheets to dry on OUTSIDE line on a mild/dryish day this week.

* hung jeans, towels and sweaters to dry by woodstove

* Matt changed the oil in the van himself.

* Listened to a few more lectures from Hillsdale College. This time,  The Gold Standard and Time to Give Up or Time to Fight On. (I have a netbook with speakers that I haul with me into different rooms that need cleaning and listen while I work.  Believe it or not, I can concentrate better on listening to something when my hands are working.  And I can justify listening to it when I have a million other things to be doing, because I am not sitting down doing nothing.)

* One thing I forgot to mention last week was that while doing bills, I paid for most of the bills online or by phone...saving me the cost of stamps (and checks).  I have never really done this online before and it was surprisingly easy.  I plan to do this more often.

* Speaking of stamps: I went to the post office and bought 11 books of FOREVER stamps.  (They go up .03 in price on January 26th.)

* saved tuna water to pour on cat and dog food for a treat.

* saved, dried and crumbled all the eggshells to give back to chickens (for calcium.)

* took pictures of several items of clothing (including a wedding dress) to post on Etsy and Ebay sometime by the weekend or early next week at the latest.

What ways have you saved, strategically spent or stretched your pennies this week?

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~
 If you have tips on how you stretch or save those pennies, quotes or inspiration to encourage, or would like to write out ways you've been financially savvy this week, feel free to link up!
 Just remember~ link to the SPECIFIC blog post!
I have started to plan my perfect style minimalist wardrobe. I recently ran around looking like a homeless or a parrot after having 2 babies my wardrobe is a strange mix of things that i like but nothing matches. So i know i have to buy and hopefully make some clothes for myself but i want to own the minimum basic wardrobe so that i can combine pants/skirts and tops in various ways and styles. Basically i did an inventory of what i have and a list of what i need. Now i know exactly what things to look for when i shop, so i don't get distracted by fashion deals or whatever and end up with more parrot style. I'm not into shopping at all and not obsessed with appearance, but i do want to look attractive for my husband and also dress beautiful (yet simple) without starting to waste money. So i took this whole wardrobe thinking as a step of better stewardship of financial resources and beauty.
Theresa- thanks! To think of all the yummy fish water I have wasted through the years....
Lydia~ it absolutely IS a step toward better stewardship and beauty. It is also a BRILLIANT idea. I will be copying you one of these days...I have to inventory for my children spring/summer clothes anyway.
Rhonda and Kimberly- thanks for linking up! I wondered if anyone would!
Your giving post recently really touched my heart, so as god is tightening our finances up (I'm an awful impulse spender!) when I went grocery shopping this week I bought food for some friends in need!! Yay! Oh and I started meal planning again to reign in some "lost" money!!
I just cut the three older boys hair. I need to do Scott's soon, too!
We save the water from canned chicken here. (We don't have tuna often because my MIL is allergic.)
I've started a new business (a few weeks ago). Though it did have a minimal start-up cost, I've already recouped about half of that! I'm trusting the Lord to bless it as I believe the decision to start really was of Him.
I need to get some stamps soon! It's been on my To Do list for a week or so.
We need to get some more soap made to add to our Etsy shop!
So many more things to do!
Bobbi-that makes me so happy. REALLY. I bet you were feeling pretty good while you were doing it too. AND giving it! What a blessing you were! WELL DONE.
Leah T.- don't I know it! I have been meaning to make soap for WEEKS now. Months, actually, because I was supposed to make soap for some Christmas gifts and never got around to it! I got my Lilla Rose today! It is lovely!
Terri- I am sorry you had trouble with the linky. When you hit the button 'add link', cut and paste your url (as you did in the comments box) into the first line, your name in the second, and your email address in the 3rd. (Your email will NOT BE SHARED.) Then, hit submit. If you still have problems, there is a little "HELP" button at the bottom of the submission page. Maybe that will give you the answer you need.
I LOOOOOVE your quote" Some people are so poor all they have is money". AMEN and AMEN. All the greatest treasures are free: " Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy?" Isa. 55:1-2
Thanks Rebecca. I was having computer problems and blogger problems and facebook problems the other night. It worked beautifully today when I retried it.
