What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

In the Valentine Spirit...

A L*O*N*G time ago, I spoke about wanting to make myself an apron that didn't have a neckband because those behind-the-neck bands actually give me migraines! It took quite a while for everything to come into place. My machine broke and I was gifted another, I sought out a *pretty* pattern and eventually found one that was BEAUTIFUL and was SOO me, searched high and low for fabric that I would feel PRETTY in while wearing my apron and eventually found these most beautiful three. Everything was working out splendidly-I made it with relative ease and with my new machine, I was even able to add decorative heart stitching. When it was finally finished, I showed Matt and he said "Wow. You MADE that? That is BEAUTIFUL." Him calling one of my sewing projects 'beautiful' just catapolted my excitement through the roof. But then...I tried it on.

And it didn't fit me right. The most cursed area on my body is my chest. It is larger than life and no, I ain't foolin'. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. My stupid chest has caused me more problems...let me tell you. OR rather, don't. :-)

Anyway, I didn't account for my 'excess upstairs' and so, it didn't quite look on me the way I wanted it to look and didn't quite cover what I wanted covered. I cried. I wailed. I sniffled. I stomped.

The only other thing to do was to sell it, in Ye Olde Etsy Shoppe.

But I just couldn't! The fabric combinations are just divine! The style is flirty and feminine, dainty but with a tinge of retro. And Matt called it BEAUTIFUL.

Well, it has taken me about 2 months to finally force myself to do it. To sell my prized, long awaited, most perfect apron for me. It is now in Ye Olde Etsy.

I hope that whoever does end up with it, will be as happy with it as I would have been...

On a brighter note: check out this bib I custom designed. Isn't it cool? Just in time for Valentine's Day! It too, is at the store.

Psst. I have one more Valentine thing I worked on this week, but it is a secret surprise thing that is in the mail as we speak, and the receiver reads my blog so I don't want to spoil the secret. But I will share with you about THAT project, once I am able.

For more Sew Crafty busy-ness head on over to Shereen's blog.

Now tell me, is anyone else around here in the Valentine's Day spirit? What are you up to?

Oh Rebecca!!!! That is BEAUTIFUL!!! I can totally understand why you hate to part with it!

I know how you feel about Matt's words. When Verne praises something that I make I feel so wonderful, and happy to have pleased him. I do have to say that I'm blessed because he's very complimentary. Sigh.:0)

Wow! That is beautiful. Unfortunately, I'm a bit top heavy myself or I'd snatch it up!

Good job.

OH REBECCA! That is BREATHTAKING!!!! How terribly frustrating that it did not fit! What pattern did you use? I too want to snatch it up, but lack of funds and being top heavy like you are prevent me. WAY cute!!

I LOVE that apron! Matt was right to call it beautiful! Have you thought about adjusting the pattern and trying again?

Happy sewing!

What a shame it didn't fit. I would try again too.

If at first you don't succeed, alter the pattern and make it even better then before. It is beautiful!

I haven't blogged my sad story yet, I don't know if I will. I made matching aprons for my daughter and I for Christmas out of fabric i've been saving for something special. I knew this was it. Her's fits perfect and has growing room. Mine is HUGE, even though the pattern said my measurements were correct. So, sigh, cry, my daughter has an apron that matches her Auntie. Auntie is happy, but I'm still sad. It fits Auntie like it was made for her.

I know you are going to make someone very happy by selling it.

The apron is just lovely! How sad it didn't fit. Will you make another? I also love the bib. So cute. You are very talented!!

Thanks everyone, for your thoughts. I contemplated altering it, but I didn't have enough fabric to lengthen the straps. I don't have enough fabric to make another using these fabrics (though I do have a bit excess of two of them...) so I will alter the pattern and use different fabrics. I have already found some that are nice, just not AS nice. Knowing they aren't AS wonderful has made me dawdle on starting it all over again...

What pretty fabric on the apron and I'm so sorry it didn't fit you, that's such a shame.

Very cute bib, nifty design. You reminded me that I have Valentine's fabric that I need to make something out of. I better get busy!

Oh, Becka, how lovely! How perfectly girly! I would be singing around my kitchen wearing something so beautiful, LOL! Heck, I might even wear pearls and high heels while I clean...NOT. But wow, that sure is pretty.
The bib is adorable and very clever!

PS--I'm not in the Valentine's Spirit yet, although I have already hung up one v-day wreath. Mostly because I had this big, blank spot at the top of my stairs after taking down a Christmas wreath, LOL! I'll be 'doing' my V-day decorations next week.

That is so sad that it didn't work out. I would hang it up as a Valentine's day decoration. It is beautiful.

Oh it is beautiful. You have such talent.

I feel your pain, I am a size 10 the bottom and a size 18 on the top. I hate it! But that is how God made me, so I live with it.

Rebecca, I must echo everyone else's sentiments about your apron- it is SO BEAUTIFUL!!! :)

Don't you just hate it! I have had similar problems with some of my sewing projects, that's why I rarely make things for myself. So frustrating. That apron is so beautiful. I hope you are asking a good price for it. Perhaps you will be able to find the same fabric and be able to make one that works for you.

Wow! The apron is PERFECT and everything an apron should be!

The heart stitching is darling.

It is gorgeous! No wonder you were heartbroken... What a perfect pattern and gorgeous material, and I love the pleating in front! Is the pattern a vintage one or modern? I just sorted through my small stash of vintage patterns yesterday and came across one that's fairly similar, but not quite as cute.

And if John told me something I made was beautiful, I'd frame it and send it to the Library of Congress to store for posterity. :)
