What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

The Month That Was: NOVEMBER

haircut time once again

November 17th dumped over a foot of snow on us.  It's been covered in white ever since.

helping make bread.  Or, by the looks of her chin, maybe just licking up flour.

Notice the tousled girl gets the the tousled doll and the perfectly coifed girl gets the perfectly coifed doll.  Perfectly suited.

When a neighbor shares homegrown leeks...you make leek soup

Andrew's first day out hunting, he came back with a nine-point!

Pheasants in the flower circle!

The craft show that the girls set up over Black Friday was a fun (and freezing) experience.  Everyone made a few dollars for their efforts and they had a chance to hang with some of their favorite people in the world.  Success!

Everyone contributed something.  Corynn painted canvases and made stationary.  Adele made hair barrettes.  Friends brought knitwear, stationary, paintings, origami, jewelry, mittens, scarves and ornaments.  It was an ecclectic mix but I think their display came together nicely.

and here is the mansion barn where they set up.  It happened to be FREEZING (single digits for most of the first day) but boy was it GORGEOUS.  I wonder if Matt would ever build me a barn full of twinkle lights?  Hmmm, Mattie?

If you take time to look inside a half-frozen gallon of raw milk sometime...you may be surprised by the beauty you discover!

And that was November in a nutshell.

The month disappeared- as all months are seeming to do this year.  Am I getting old?  Is time speeding up?

I was having a morning brew of warm tea (Bengal Spice- one of my favorites!) when I had a little spark of an idea!  If you are someone who would appreciate a little surprise tucked in their mailbox this month-I know *I* am!- be sure to come back tomorrow to hear details and sign yourself up for some fun.

It should be fun.  Even if only one other person signs up!  ;-)

Crafting On...

It is a veritable Elves Workshop around here these days.  The girls are setting up a craft booth on Black Friday and Saturday so we are getting things around for that.  I planned to do a bunch of stuff for it originally in order to make some extra money then decided it was too much added stress to worry about right now...and then I saw some crafty things happening in the house and it got me in the spirit of things.  I decided that I could do a few things as long as it continued to be FUN and not the least bit FRANTIC.  More to round out the table than to make a huge bit of cash.

I am sticking with super simple square hats with super bulky yarn that I can crochet up quickly (which I find are some of the cutest pixie pointed ones when worn) with special touches like fur pompoms, buttons or velvet ribbon.  I am sticking to baby sizes because they are faster (obviously) and because if they don't sell, I won't be the least bit disappointed since babies are always born and handmade gifts are always welcome.

I am hoping to do a peg doll nativity set.  Some spice mix ornaments.  Maybe some clay dollhouse food.  Adele is helping with felt barrettes and Corynn is painting a bunch of awesomeness like canvases, stationary and bookmarks.  It is kind of Corynn's thing- and some friends are setting up with her- so it will be fun no matter what.  But I do hope it winds up being a bit worth their while-if for no other reason than to show them that people other than mothers admire their excellent workmanship.

I am continuing to read Frankenstein even though it was meant to be a Halloween read...I have just been too exhausted to read much.  I am only about halfway through but I am enjoying it.  It wasn't what I had expected it to be.  I didn't expect to be heartbroken for the monster- but I am.

Brick Ovens and Bosom Friends

Most of the time when trick or treating, you get sweets.  But SOMETIMES, if you are very, very lucky- you get an invite to a stone oven pizza-making party and movie night to watch your characters come to life.

Mental note: be characters from movies more often!

12 amazing kids. 4 awesome adults. 18 delicious pizzas.

Best Friday Night Ever.

First Big Snow

All year, every Friday it seemed, Adele' would ask to watch Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.  As much as I love the movie (and I do!), it gets a bit old when it is requested so often.  And frankly, to me, it just seems like a winter movie...so I told Adele that we would celebrate the first covering-snow of the year with a movie night whether it landed on Friday Night Movie Night or not.

Guess what we are watching?

(I really love Millie.)

Woods Walk

They are calling for a big snowy storm tomorrow.  (6 or more inches?!)  Which means tonight I blog probably the last of the sleeveless boys and green grass photos for many months.

*Sigh*
