What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

This Moment

Ineke comes in from taking cookies to a neighbor, very somber and serious.

"Mama!  This is SUPER DUPER sad..."

(she says this twice to really prepare me for the worst.)

"What is, Ineke?"

She breathes in deep through her nose and says...

"Grandma and Grandpa AND the Martins have fake Christmas trees in their house!  FAKE!"

And then walks away muttering "FAKE Christmas trees!"

It is super duper sad. We have a fake tree, too, and it's just not the same.

I feel the same as Ineke. What’s really sad is the price of real trees. So, I broke down and ordered a FAKE tree this year. I still can’t believe myself! All we have around here are cedars and pines, neither of which are attractive as Christmas trees. Plus, ever got a cedar prickly stuck in your feet? Yikes.

Cute, that Ineke!

She's right, of course. That is the worst!! But she hasn't realized yet that not everyone has an unlimited free supply of Christmas trees in their back yard, and the right tools to cut one down. Let them stay innocent as long as possible. Thank you for a quick dose of humor. And thank you for sending your kids out into the world with love and goodies.
