What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

Sew Crafty Friday

The sewing machine has been whirring away for a week now-and my projects have outgrown my teeny craft room table. The dining room table has looked like THIS for a week now, and it reminds me of what it was like at our old house-when I didn't have a crafty room.

I can't share all the projects just yet, as some are top-secret...but all will be revealed in time. Here is one to tide you over.

In preparation for our airplane flight and Indianda adventure, I decided I should like to make something special for each of the children to get them even more excited and to make even MORE special, their time on the plane.

Corynn told me, the moment she heard about the plane, that "Laura has always wanted to FLY on a plane!" so I guess, in order to make a doll's dreams come true, she is going to have to come too. Hopefully, she will be considered a lap baby... :-) Anyway, the only mode of transportation for Laura is a big and bulky (and held together only by Velcro) backpack. Each of the children are allowed ONE backpack for the plane, so the doll backpack wouldn't do. I made Corynn a sling for Laura instead, that way it could roll up small and snug and fit in her backpack when it wasn't in use.

Laura is her most treasured baby...bought by Nanny and Poppy at Christmastime two years ago. She is sweeter than sweet for a baby doll and once made very convincing baby sounds to boot. It has been so long since Laura cooed and giggled, that I wonder if Corynn even remembers that she is capable of doing them again (if only her innards were replaced!) She is a silent child to me-but to Corynn she is quite animated. Imaginations are wonderful things.

I realize how offensive this photo is, with overwhelmingly busy patterns and clashing reds and pinks...if I were smarter, I would have planned it better. OR, if I cared...

Dutchie heard the ruckus and came bounding up. She's a good dog and we love her~even when she comes bounding up carrying all the dead mice we've been throwing in the woods.

I won't tell you how many. It will spoil your image of us.

I also made Panda a little something for the plane~ a crayon roll. But for the life of me, I couldn't find it to take a picture.

I better hurry up and get looking for it-only THREE more days left!

Boo hoo, no pictures for me, either. But Blogger is being schmucky about photos today. I couldn't get them to work on my blog, either. I hope yours show up next time I come back, 'cause I want to see!

Ditto on the picture. I was really curious about the dolly sling. My niece wants one for her baby dolls since she's seen me "wear" my daughter, who happens to be from China too.

I absolutely love the sling. And I think the colors are perfect; fun and full of life. I'm sure Laura will be traveling in style and loving her airplane ride. :)What agreat mom you are to make this special gift for your daughter.

Love the sling! Did you use a pattern for it?

Awesome! And when I saw this post, I immediately made Susannah's sling, so thanks! She's been moping around looking at the other girls' slings for two months now, so it's about time. (Really, I don't think she cares much about it yet...)

Quick question. What was the fabric length you used for Corynn's? I used a yard and a half for the Christmas slings, but I only used a yard for Susannah's, and I think she'll outgrow it by next Christmas!

p.s. I love Corynn's shirt here, and the poofy yellow one that she wears in the Heckedy Peg video. LOVE them!

Abby: Both shirts were on clearance at Old Navy for $1.75. They are actually sized 8, 11 (respectively) so you'll likely see more of them! Read: until they are thread bare! ;-) Right now, they are like short dress/shirts~worn with leggings or jeans. Later, they will be 3/4 length sleeve shirts.

Love it when I get my money's worth!

For the sling: I used just over a yard-because that is all I had of the material, at it fits-but...it won't for too long. I'll probably send this away to Cassandra once it outgrows Corynn. Unless she stays as stick thin as she has been for the past two years...
