What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. ~ Martin Luther

Post-Christmas Bird Haven

Corynn and I finished our bird haven this afternoon before rest time. What fun we had-and what a mess we made! With cleaning up hurricane kids gingerbread house, then hurricane grown up gingerbread house, and now hurricane birdscape all in one week-I am bit tired of disaster clean-up. No more messy projects for a while, I say! :-) That said, I am very proud of how it turned out.

I am SO pleased. Guess what happened? While we were out there-some chickadees (one especially brave one) came right up to us (not a foot away!) We could have touched it! We stood there a moment afraid to move then, I ran in to get the camera and it flew off-but returned when I returned. I was just about to snap the picture when the battery died. I flew inside again only to realize that we had no more batteries. I scrounged some old ones out of something else but to no avail. The gracious bird AGAIN returned when I came back but the batteries were not new enough and so, died again. The moment was lost. What luck...

Back to the tree: We made several different kinds of ornaments. We hollowed some oranges and limes and made birdseed baskets; on other peel slices we put grape jelly, still others we quartered. We slathered peanut butter on pinecones and then dipped in birdseed; we mixed birdseed and bacon grease inside cookie cutters, and we made shapes out of toast by using cookie cutters. I *think* that covers it. We were going to go on a nature walk to collect red berried and put sprigs of those throughout as well, but it was rainy this morning. I suspect those birdies know where those berries are anyway...

I wish I could post all the photos on this one post, but Blogger hates me and never allows me to do that. It sure would be nice though, for categorizing, to have all associated pictures together. At least I can post them seperately.
So-the rest of the photos just have to stay in January archives.

Now-off the computer for me, to clean those breadcrumbs and birdseed so our little Panda doesn't get a feast...

That tree is just the most creative & darling thing I've ever seen! What a great idea! I'll bet you have the happiest little birdies in PA! I can hear their happy tweets all the way in CA! =)

About you mentioning me starting my own blog...I wouldn't even know where to start! My kids are right in between the ages of your kids...I have a 7 year old daughter, Aidenn, a 4 year old boy Seamus & an almost two-year-old (Jan.18) girl named Mya. They are truly the loves & lights of my life.. just as your sweet ones are for you! =) I will let you know if I ever figure out the blog thing! =) Have a great day!

How cute! I am thinking some of the little "ornaments" you made would be good to just make to hang in a bush or anything since we don't have a real tree to put outside like that. Hmmm....maybe something for us to do the week Daddy is away to keep our minds and hands occupied better! ~Jen

How cool! Whenever I set up a birdfeeder or anything it always takes the birds forever to find it. You are so creative, if you lived closer I'd have you over to teach me all the fun kid-stuff you know how to make! (Well, I'd have you over anyway...)

This sounds like a fun project!

I am not all that creative everyone. Truly. Most of my 'ideas' are directly from or stem from the overabundance of craft books and magazines I constantly have my nose in.

Anyway-you all will be happy to know, it is working like a charm! We are the birdies best friends!
